Which BlackBerry should I buy?

Hello,

I'm wondering if someone could advise me on upgrading my Blackberry!
I currently have a BlackBerry Curve 8530. I quite like it, but I would like to upgrade to something that is faster and better supported, i.e. OS 7.1 versus OS 5.
I have checked out the BlackBerry 10 phones, and while I think it's a great OS and interface and I was quite impressed by how well the touch interface was designed, I still prefer the classic BlackBerries and their interface.
tl;dr: I am not interested in purchasing a BlackBerry 10 device.

I was thinking of getting a Bold 9900, but I wonder if there is any newer BlackBerry 7 phone with the Media and Convenience Buttons that my current BB has (they are very convenient!) I do use it as my music player (the only portable player I've ever seen that supports MP3 AND MIDI, and I hear the newer ones support OGG Vorbis as well!)
If the BB 7 phones have ditched these invaluable buttons, is it possible to use those fancy earbuds that have those media controls and 3–4 pole jacks on them like the iPhone has?

Thanks,
Thomas :)

You couldn't pay me to get a Blackberry. Android, iOS, or Windows Phone are your best options.

The Bold 9900 is very outdated (3 years old now, and it wasn't exactly top of the line hardware when it was released). That said, I carried it around for a year and a half, and I absolutely loved it. Very underrated phone. By far the best keyboard ever on any cell phone (hardware or software), solid feel, and the OS might not be flashy but it does what it's meant to do quite well.

Frankly you should be able to pick up a 9900 on eBay for practically nothing these days, and despite what the naysayers here will tell you, it's really a solid device if you're into that sort of thing.

You might wait for the Blackberry Classic that they're about to release as it's supposed to provide the best of both worlds, but I'll echo what Deeko said. The 9900, despite it's shortcomings, was one of the best phones I've ever used for just getting things done. I'm not sure I could go back to using a BBOS phone now given the limitations of the OS and the lack of support from app vendors, but the keyboard is pure heaven, and I still miss it to this day.

If you insist on Blackberry with a physical keyboard, what's wrong about the BB10 options? The Q10 has a really good keyboard, and if you like being on the bleeding edge, get the new Blackberry Passport. A friend of mine works at Blackberry and has been using the Passport for a while. Yes, it looks really goofy, but he said it's amazing to use (if you like Blackberry, of course).

The BlackBerry 9720 will hang around for a while, but you're honestly better off going to an iPhone, Android device or Windows Phone. You're giving up a *lot* of functionality in the name of familiarity, whether it's locally stored music or streaming services (which are almost non-existent on classic BlackBerrys).

Bold 9700 or 9780 are great phones. They lack the newer features that modern OS's have, but you really can get around 3 days of battery life with normal -> moderately heavy usage. The keyboards are spectacular and the camera is actually better than the Bold 9900. Still enough apps that make them pretty functional devices but they don't have the game options that you'll find on Android or iOS. Let's not forget that they are built like tanks.

If you look around, you can get Z10s for pretty cheap. I have had mine for a year and prefer the OS to Android, especially considering I can run about 95% of the Android apps on it as well as native Blackberry Apps. The next full update 10.3 will have the Amazon App Store integrated but you can also sideload a program called Snap! that acts as a front-end for Google Play.

That being said, sometimes my fingers still cry out for a physcial keyboard and I lust after the Q10. I just don't think I can do the Passport; to boxy, to bleh. And the trackpad is something that I still miss from time to time.

The 9900 series were the latest of the BBOS models. BlackBerry will be releasing a BB10 model similar to 9900.

I would take a look at the Q10 or bold 9900 although I'm curious why you don't want to try BB10

Well, this confirms it, the AT mobile devices crowd are a bunch of pricks.
