Which binary newsgroup server is best?

Like most broad band ISPs mine has poor usenet services. Well actually they have lots of different groups but their retention sucks, 1-3 days. So I've gotten into the habbit of paying for newsgroup access, off and on. Currently I pay 10 bucks for 25Gigs on astraweb which is quite a good deal. However there are other services out there with more options. So which host do you prefer?

Uhh.. I'm assuming you know what newsgroups are. For people who download tons of binaries their ISPs news server services aren't adequate. When you have a newsgroup with 1million headers in it and the retention rate of your ISP is only 1 or 2 days you can easily miss posts.

giganews if you can afford it...

$25/month for unlimited downloads and 10 connections with 50 days of retention = teh winnar

Yeah I'm personally stuck between Giganews and newshosting.com. One is better the other is cheaper.

Giganews. My ISP gives us 2 Giganews servers, each at 30kb. Works out to 5 GB. a day or so. The retention though is Grade A.

I switched from Giganews to Newshosting because even though Giganews has higher retention for some damn reason i kept missing files in NZB's, Switched to Newshosting and it went away...

So it's cheaper and I'm getting more complete posts.

Been using Supernews since I first started messing with the newsgroups, probably about 10 years ago. They are very reliable with decent speeds etc. No complaints here......

i chose newshosting. thats what i use.

why would one pay $10 more for giganews when its virtually the same as newshosting? newshosting has 40+ days of retention and unlimited DL's.

I've been thinking about it for a while now...I think I'm going to get my first usenet account, probably easynews or newshosting.com...should be exciting 🙂

Newsreader.com

I signed up in 1999 and pay $10/month for 50 gb or whenever I hit 50 gb first.

8 connections at a time, gone up to 15 mb/second before.

Download a dvd full of mame pretty fast.

They have a web interface as well and you can check usage online.

*edit* its only 2 gig not 5

they still allow that? I haven't checked in so long.. 2GB wasn't enough porn 😛

Well, I guess I don't know if there's a limit on RR or not. But if there is, I haven't hit it yet. And I'd downloaded many gigs of information within a couple days at one point. haven't done much lately though.
