Nine Inch Nails

he sewed his eyes shut because he is afraid to see
he tries to tell me what i put inside of me
he's got the answers to ease my curiosity
he dreamed up a god and called it christianity

your god is dead and no one cares
if there is a hell i will see you there

he flexed his muscles to keep his flock of sheep in line
he made a virus that would kill off all the swine
his perfect kingdom of killing, suffering and pain
demands devotion atrocities done in his name

your god is dead and no one cares
drowning in his own hypocrisy
and if there is a hell i will see you there

burning with your god in humility
will you die for this?

Clawfinger, without any doubt.

I'm your life and religion

I know the answers to the questions in your mind
I've been to the places that you couldn't even find
I seen all the things you never thought you'd get to see
I've been everyone you couldn't be
I've read all the stories and I know how they end
I've fixed all the broken things that you couldn't mend
I've taken all the chances that you never even took
and I've found the things you overlooked
I'm the answer to your questions, I believe when you're in doubt
I'm based on a rumour, I'm spread by word of mouth
There's no proof of my existence I'm a myth that you arouse
I'm your life and religion, your faith and your hope
Your drug and your addiction your injection of dope
I've met all the people that you never dared to meet
I've played all the games of life and never once been beat
I've walked upon the water without even getting wet
and there's not a thing that I regret
I've done everything that's wrong and made it right again
I've talked to all my enemies and turned them into friends
I've been crucified and resurrected from the dead
Do you believe a single word I've said?
I'm the answer to your questions, I believe when you're in doubt
I'm based on a rumour, I'm spread by word of mouth
There's no proof of my existence I'm a myth that you arouse
I'm your life and religion, your faith and your hope
Your drug and your addiction your injection of dope
I'm everywhere and nowhere I'm your saviour when you sin
I'm your great escape to higher ground when you give in
I'm everybody's scapegoat I'm a glimpse of clarity
Would you sacrifice yourself for me?

I'm thinking about getting a Pink Floyd album. I heard a lot about them when Radiohead's OK Computer came out, people were comparing it to Dark Side of the Moon. Any suggestions as to which one I should get?

You poor, poor sheltered souls...

Not one Lou Reed/Velvet Underground fan here?

Seriously, Lou is an amazing writer.

Another not mentioned is David Bowie.

These two guys have written some of the most amazing lyrics ever.

"Dark Side of the Moon" is a good intro to the new Floyd fan. "The Wall" is great. "Animals" is probably my favorite. Their earlier stuff is awesome, but a little bit more "raw" and weird.

<< Oasis????? Yeah, maybe before Noel got bored with rock, but Oasis sucks lyrically and musically now. It all ended when they let liam write his own song..... Really Noel, now tell me, "Where did it all go wrong"......... >>

Hefner...

We will laugh the day that Thatcher dies,
Even though we know it's not right,
We will dance and sing all night.

I was blind in 1979, by '82 I had clues,
By 1986 I was mad as hell.

The teachers at school, they took us for fools,
They never taught us what to do,
But Christ we were strong, we knew all along,
We taught ourselves the right from wrong.

And the punk rock kids, and the techno kids,
No, it's not their fault.
And the hip hop boys and heavy metal girls,
No, it's not their fault.

It was love, but Tories don't know what that means,
She was Michelle Cox from the lower stream,
She wore high-heeled shoes while the rest wore flat soles.

And the playground taught her how to be cruel,
I talked politics and she called me a fool,
She wrapped her ankle chain round my left wing heart.

Ding dong, the witch is dead, which old witch?
The wicked witch.
Ding dong, the wicked witch is dead.

Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here
The Wall
Division Bell

In that order (these are the only ones I have, so they are the only reccomendations I can make. But there are a lot of other albums)

<< Leonard Cohen >>

I'm suprised you said that. Most people I've met have never heard of him.
>>

Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest lyricists of the 20th century. How can people not know about him? His singing voice might not be the best, but he's one of the few songwriters that can make me feel his sadness. Suzanne is a song that puts me in a deep melancholy whenever I listen to it.

Clearly, the answer is Metallica. Do yourself a favor and go listen to songs like Fade to Black, The Unforgiven, The Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, Sanitarium, One, hell, anything you listen to will be fine. Except for I Disappear. Please don't listen to that.

Nine Inch Nails comes in second, in my book. Trent Reznor is obviously one creative being.
