Which band should I do a music video for? *UPDATED*

So through some odd mix of good luck and my website, a local band leader emailed me asking me to direct his band's music video. I'd normally jump at the oppurtunity but the problem is that I got another email the next day from another band asking me to direct their video as well! So, oddly, I'm in demand but I can only direct one of them... One band's demo is in the mail but, until then, what do you guys think of the first bands music? Does it sound like a bunch of guys just screwing around or a serious group of musicians who have the chance of making it? I think they sound pretty good but I'd like to hear more input before jumping in.... They're still recording the song that they'd like a video for but here are some samples... Sample songs

Thanks!

UPDATE
Just got the demo cd of the 2nd band - I uploaded the files to my server.. What do you guys think?

Band One - In Itself
Song 1
Song 2
Song 3

Band Two - The Violets
Song 1
Song 2
Song 3

Thanks guys!

That's some pretty good music. While they probably won't get anywehre, I'd do their music video.

They sound alright, but I don't think it's anything I'd actively listen to. The music's good, but I don't care for the vocals.

Thanks for your thoughts.. I haven't kept up with MTV or mainstream radio - is this something that could find a place out their in mainstream USA or do you think that they'll continue to play small venues in NYC? I sound arrogant but I'm a fulltime student plus I'm directing at least one other project per month - I don't have a lot of free time.

I don't think you should choose your customers based on whether you like their music. You should do the job based on whether you want to do the job. Your taste in music shouldn't play into it at all.

Up to you, but if you want to be professional, do the job if you're comfortable with the budget, script, etc.

Even if the music sucks, in your opinion, do it!

Experience can only be good.

That's the thing- both bands have no budget and both bands want me to have 100% creative control. If this was a paid gig I'd do it in a heartbeat.. Since I'm doing this for exposure (and for the experience) I'd like to work on something that has a chance of being picked up, know what I mean?

I know what you're saying, but I have two bands asking me to do their video and I only have time to do one. I'm a slow director so I take a lot of time from concept to finished product so this project will take me a month or even two for me to finish.

Which one has the bigger budget?

Do they already have a treatment for what they want to do or do you have to write one?

Both of them will be working with very small budgets... Equal I'd say. Both of them have ideas but I'd be working on the official treatment.

If you're content with both of their music, I'd go with whichever band is more realistic about what they want to accomplish with the amount of money they have.

Waiting for their demo - they don't have any MP3s up... I just want to hear opinions on these guys first, then I'll post the MP3s as soon as I rip them.

well i listened to constellation. the band sounds together but the song is pretty boring. they have "band plays too slow" syndrome, something i find happens a lot when generally energetic bands go to record something.

if the other band sounds weaker, i'd make the video for these guys. BUT i would not do it for these recordings. hopefully they have something of higher quality. that's not radio-ready material they have on the website. listen to the drums and vocals, especially.

Do the one that will allow you the most artistic freedom. To try and second guess which band will get signed is worse than playing three card monty. Gambling on the whims of the consumer is for A&R dorks. YOU are a video director. They are not mutually inclusive fields of endeavor.
