What criteria?
The samsonite looks better designed for its purpose, but seems to share stylistic cues with the moon boots I wore in the snow in the early 1980's.
The North Face in dark blue would blend in with any other college kid's backpack (except for the lame "modem" insignia). Any other than dark blue and red just looks bad on that bag.
If it was for my job and I wasn't concerned about having a dweeby looking bag, I'd pick the Samsonite ... if it was for cruising around town on my own time, I would pick the North Face, especially if I thought I could rip the "modem" patch off.

Both look terrible but I voted for samsonite cuz the NF one has the worst color.

I have a samsonite backpack and I think it's great. The one I have has an internal frame, 2 contoured plastic pieces along the back that keep books or folders from digging into your back. Plus it has a lot of padding in the straps and seems to be very durable, mine is over 3 yrs old and still looks good.

they also have life time warranty no?

if it breaks (like zipper comes off), send it to them and they'll fix it and send it back.

I have a Jansport since highschool. The original bag got a tear on the side, I sent it back and got a brand new replacement.

I think it is still lifetime warranty.

i have that samsonite bag. i love it, lots of useful pockets, good padding for the laptop, and the shoulder strap/back padding is very comfortable.

i've been laptop backpack hunting forever, the best i've come accross are swiss army for best build/quality and oakley for best looking. If you have a 17" i have recommendations for those too.

Samsonite one looks like it has more pockets and stuff which is always a plus. That's the one I'd go with.
