Of those options? The Captivate is probably the best bet, though I'd also advise you to wait until Samsung fixes the GPS. No reason to give them your hard earned money until they've demonstrated they'll stand by their product.

Once the Streak comes with something newer than 1.6, I'd get it over those other two. If you're buying right now and have to go with ATT I'd go with the Captivate.

I read an article that said Dell Streak was shipping to U.S. with 2.2. I think it was gizmodo or engadget

Have only had the Captivate for a day, and am loving it so far. Honeymoon should last at least a week.

Captivate as far as how they come stock. The streak might be nicer if you're willing to root and use a 'beta' or unofficial OS. With a 5" screen though you really should try it out though. IMO that's too big for a phone. Not from a pocketable standpoint, but from a phone call making standpoint. Unless I used a headset for all calls, I can't imagine it being a good fit for calls. All IMO of course.

The Samsung has a better screen and faster hardware than the Droid X, not to mention the iPhone.

Yeah I dont agree with them being horrible choices. Lets not forget how people were in a hoots when we thought Motorola locked down the new batch of Droid phones.

I would definitely go with the Captivate - even if the Droid X were an option (aka I'd go with the Fascinate over the Droid X on Verizon). I'm not a big fan of the Streak's size, and the Captivate is superior to the Nexus One in almost every way.

In fact, with the current phones out right now, I'd go with a Galaxy S variant (Vibrant/Captivate/Epic) over everything else, on all carriers.

I'd go with the Captivate also. The Nexus One still has some nice aspects (particularly the ace in the hole of getting major updates months ahead of anything else), but the Captivate's screen and processing power are definitely a step up. The N1 is actually more compelling on T-Mobile because you can use a loophole in the system to get $10/month unlimited data, but I've read that ATT has blocked a similar loophole on their network.

I've not owned a Galaxy S but I really love my Nexus One. It may not have the best specs anymore, but it's nice to be the first one in the office to get updates and to not have to deal with carrier software. And the price isn't so bad when you consider that you can also buy a subsidized phone from ATT (why not, you pay the same monthly price either way) and sell at retail. I know I'm going to be on ATT the next two years so I purchased an iPhone4 and sold it for $600 cash to offset the retail price of the N1.

Better screen then the iPhone? Why because its bigger? Not even close.

The iPhone doesn't need any more power with the battery it has, if it did it would have dismal battery life like the Samsung - I'll take the battery life, thank you. It has plenty of power, the chip could have easily been clocked higher if Apple didn't feel the same way.

The battery life is superior on the Droid X as well.

Its bigger & its SuperAMOLED. Yes, it is a lower pixel density. Some would prefer the former, some would prefer the latter. To try to say one is definitively better than the other is foolish.

Why do you insist on bringing up the iPhone anyway? In case you didn't notice, he didn't ask about the iPhone.

No, it's better because it's a S-AMOLED screen that has unmatched contrast and real blacks you will never get from a LCD. I have done side by side comparisons between the iPhone 4 and Captivate and the retina display looks like crap next to the Captivate's screen.

Show me a review that says the AMOLED is better then the IPS on the iPhone. I have read plenty on them both and a lot of times they are basically just evenly matched, but in others the iPhone wins. I guess it depends on if you want to see you're phone when the sun is out. Regardless, I have yet to see a single detailed review of the Captivate that says its screen is superior

The iPhone’s outdoor livability and ultra-sharp text – something you’ll be looking at a lot of – make it the most practical of the three.

on the iPhone 4 it replicates the color perfectly while there is a slight bluish hue on the Captivate. However, the Captivate produces better pure black over the iPhone 4 as it boasts a higher contrast ratio. At times though, you can make out the individual pixels on an image or text on a web page with the Captivate while everything looks detailed and sharp on the iPhone 4. Both handsets are equally potent in the brightness category and in viewing angles as well, but taking it outdoors in the direct path of the glaring sun, we had an easier time seeing items on screen with the iPhone 4.

Great. So its exactly what I said - some prefer one, others prefer the other.

Now please answer the question as to why you can't shut up about the iPhone 4 in a thread that clearly has nothing to do with it? Is that the underside of a bridge I smell on you?

I hate Samsung phone support but given the options that's the route I would take.

Puddle Jumper should of been the only one I quoted. He honestly believes that the captivate is so superior it makes the iPhone "looks like crap next to the Captivate's screen." LOL

If I'm a troll, at least I'm not a cave troll that never goes outside. Some of us need to see our phones when we leave the house.

So enough about the iPhone - yea I brought it up because its the best offering on AT&T. If the OP has no choice but to stay with AT&T then the Captivate is the next best option. Anything but that Dell Streak, that thing is a POS.

EDIT: You will also notice I mentioned the Droid X - if the OP has the option to leave AT&T then that is something I believe he should look into. I was just making sure OP was aware of all of his options.

How's the Galaxy's battery life compared to, say, the Droid X? I know the X blows my Evo out of the water in that regard, but that doesn't take much.
