Which Athlon MP is best for overclocking?

Im picking up an MP because they are unlocked, cooler and more stable than their XP cousins. But I am curious about which one I should get. Price is not an issue but I want the maximum OC possible from the base clock. How far should the average 1.73ghz MP overclock to on an Asus A7V333? Would the 1.4ghz MP overclock to the same level?

excellent question..I am surprised more people do not look into MP for O/Cing since they are unlocked..when I bought they were just too expensive..which is why I guess people do not use these more

I am very curious how far these will go.... I dont want to waste my money on an MP 2100 when the MP 1600 will OC just as good. Has anyone tried these things yet?

Couple of issues here....

First they cost an average of 60 bucks more then their xp cousins...unlock it yourself and save the money for a swiftech or alpha....IMO not worth it....

secondly, they are such a low volume mover at a lot of places good luck maybe even getting a newer stepping and could get a major dud compared to a pretty much guaranteed agoia from newegg....

If you are going to start spending this cash for mps then might as well by a p4 1.8 and even if you get a dud by most standards 2.2-2.4ghz it will be likely as good an overclock you could get in either the 1600+xp or the 2100+ mp....

what is an agoia?

does the MP run significantly cooler then the same model XP?

what is the best heatsink/fan combo regardless of noise?

1) the agoia is one of the newer chip steppings and is one of the main chips you see putting out those 400mhz ocs of the 1600+ xps...

2) none that I know of...What physical difference is thee between the mp and xp?? NOne...so there should be no difference...

3) Any alpha 8045 and 80 mm (+40-50 cfm fan should be just fine)

I agree with Duvie's advice except that if you want the absolute best heatsink available it's the Thermalright SLK800 now. Those damn Intel nuts aren't keeping up with the sktA scene 😉

You got me there Dapunisher!!!😉

I new the alpha wasn't the best anymore, but I didn't know which one was....I think the alpha is a better then average performer though.

is that SLK800 thing the huge copper sink that comes out the sides like an upside down pyramid?

Is that THE BEST heatsink I can get right now?

Is the Vantec Tornado the fastest most CFM fan available? (84cfm)

thanks guys

I don't think you want to live with that noise...trust me....Get a ys tech or some other 80mm fan in the 45-50cfm range...mine spins at 3700rpm max and is very livable....

nah I already have one in my case, doesn't bother me, my Klipsches' spit out enough wattage to overpower that little thing 😀

when I went to Newegg to pick up a xp1600 I didnt see any that said Agoia, where did you see that?

nah Im cool off mixing plumbing and electricity... scares me too much. Frying my whole system on one stupid mistake doesn't sound fun.

They don't say AGOIA on the web site, but the ones they've got in stock now are AGOIAs.

😎If ya got the cash, get the MP. Why go through all the hassle of unlocking a XP when you can have a nice clean MP. I just got a used MP2000+ Agoia and it's running 210 x 9 @ 1890mhz w/alpha 8045 w/delta 68cfm fan on an Abit KX7-333R mobo. I am using Corsair XMS PC3200 v2.1 512mb ram but my vcore is only 1.8 and vdimm is at 2.65. I looped 3Dmark2001se for 2 hrs and my temp only got to 39c. MP's run cooler and can have higher max heat, 90c as oppossed to 70c, but you never want to get either that high. Don't get retail cause you're gonna void the warranty as soon as you oc it. get oem. BTW, I've got an MP1900+ AGNGA stepping that oc's to over 1800mhz. That's a pretty mild stepping and a pretty good oc. Go figure🙂

😀BTW, you can get used alpha's for around $25-30. Just make sure you get all the mounting hardware. Swiftech makes a comparible HSF, the MCX-462 I think it is. I've got one on my cad rig with the 1900+.

Im gonna pick somethin up to put into my Asus A7V333, still debating over an xp or mp at this moment.

Does anyone know if the Asus A7V333 is a good OC board?
