Which ASUS mobo?

Sad that I'm having trouble with this I suppose, but digging thru Asus's website is perplexing at best.

I am hoping to get an Intel E6400 soon and need an appropriate mobo from Asus (and yes, I am pretty much wedded to Asus).

What I know I need:
1. Support for the above processor
2. On-board Firewire
3. On-board LAN
4. On-board audio (not picky about how good it is)
5. Do NOT want on-board video.
6. At least 1 or 2 regulard old style PCI slots for some audio hardware I've got.

I know there are a few options from there, including how many PCI-E slots it has - I'm not sure why I'd need more than one. I'm hoping to pick up an 8800GTX, or the next-best current ATI card.

Any thoughts??

Thanks,
Blz

P5B Deluxe or P5B-E, I'd recommend the P5W if you were going E6600 or serious SLI set up or something.

I'd say P5B-E, but the current revision shipping is still only 2.1 vdimm max, whereas there's a new 1.02 revision that will have 2.45V, basically same as the P5B-D, but cheaper.

So make sure the RAM you get can run well with only 2.1V, unless you get the 1.02 version.

Thanks for the help guys!

Well I think I fried my A7N8X today (or the processor - or the PSU - who knows!) so it looks like this upgrade will occur a little more urgently.

Two quick questions:

1. I figure I need 1GB DDR2 memory. After the mobo & CPU I'm going to have to get cheaper alternatives for the rest, and I'm not looking to overclock or do any serious performance-tweaking yet. So I'm wondering if the ~$100 1GB sticks they have at Fry's (Kingston, Corsair, Patriot, etc) are ok. I'm not sure how much difference it will make if I get the 500Mhz or 667Mhz etc. Also, some of them say "PC4200" and other say "PC2-5300" and other say nothing at all. So I'm totally confused by what I should get. Inexpensive suggestions gladly entertained!

2. Anybody know what the fastest processor is that one can put in this old board? I'm not even sure I can find any old Socket A CPU's anymore, but I thought I'd see if I could find a cheap one locally (Dallas area) to see if it's the CPU that's fried, or the mobo, etc.

Thanks again for all of your help!
