Which antivirus do you use?

I just tried Symantec Antivirus 2006 but it is too bloated. It installs a dozen services and uses 50mb of ram when it is CLOSED. Took me half an hour to disable all the services and remove all the startup programs, and now the program will not start manually. I will uninstall it because I find it simply ridiculous that a simple antivirus will permanantly use up system resources like that.

Does anybody know of any good antivirus programs that do not devour system resources?

i'm using grisoft's avg pro on my pcs. it doesn't seem to be too bloated and works well enough. i practice safe emailing and surfing tho so i'm not really opening myself up to too many problems.

How about just dont go to "p0rn/haxor" sites and dont dl games and movies off the latest popular p2p network.

Your computer will run faster and your computer will feel all wholesome inside.

Are you talking about the splash screen when it starts? Otherwise, i have never seen any adverts.

Also, this is my vote for AntiVir. ;)

I used to use Norton forever, and still would be if you didnt have to pay more to renew online than a new OEM version cost.

So I said screw it and tried PC-cillin internet security 2006.

Fast, streamlined, complete. Nothing shows up on Spybot S&D anymore. A few more months of this and I can uninstall spybot.

Not bloated like norton was... only uses 1.7MB total memory in the system tray.

Symantec Antivirus. now it scans for spyware and comes with a firewall too!

btw, this is NOT norton. symantec AV is the no nonsense/frills version of norton AV.

At home, I use Kaspersky Antivirus Personal 5, reinforced with a Limited account and a Software Restriction Policy.

At work, I/we use McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i supplemented with a bunch of custom rules I made. Again, reinforced with Restricted-User accounts (domain equivalent of Limited).

I use AVG Free Edition......it's been great for me. Doesn't use up a lot of memory, it updates almost daily, and it's easily integrated with IM and email clients.

Another vote for Avir.

Free, non bloated and high detection rates. It even stopped some spyware from installing in my dad's computer the other day (though it didn't delete it, it did warn me about it and blocked the program from running).

Been using McAfee Antivirus for the past few years. Haven't had a single issue so I'm sticking with them until I do.
