I like to get my niece a light weight Alto Saxophone soft bag.

Please recommend me a bag.

Thanks

How old is she? Can she handle the weight of her sax + a 5 or more pound bag? I'd probably go with a smaller bag to save her arms and bag.

how old is she?

when i played alto sax in school, i had your typical rectangular hard case. it really wasn't much bigger, and the benefit is that you can throw it off a relatively large mountain without harm.

The problem with bags and saxophones is saxophones can be bent up really easy because they are heavy and made of soft metal.

They are also made of many small parts that can break. When I had my alto in grade school I had a hard case that was really heavy for me but was worth it because that sax never got bent once.

If you do get a soft case plan on the sax being dropped and expensive repairs will need to be done.

She is thin 12 year old and she said that her hard case is too heavy.

Sometimes you gotta suck it up, and do what it takes. My daughter carried a tenor sax for a couple of years. If it were REALLY a problem, I'd look into putting a shoulder strap on her hard case. AFAIC, soft cases aren't suitable for the majority of musical instruments.

Thanks all. It look like she is going to have to live with a hard case.

the good thing about the hard case is that after lugging the thing around, she can pretty much just drop the thing. if she gets frustrated with the soft case and sets it down a little hard...youch.

For traveling most instruments get packed under a bus packed in like suitcases. The only people I knew that used soft-cases carried their instrument on their person at all times.

What about a hard-case with wheels?
