So, what would be the action cam to get now ???

I am looking for reliability, durablity, max $300 to spend and of course video quality...

There are many GoPros - Plus +, silver, black, etc... Plenty of Sony to choose from as well as $99 off brands that seem to work for some people.

What says you AT?

Your mom makes good cams

OHHHHHH...burn.

On topic, what kind of battery life you looking for?
Do you have any specific weight concerns? Some sports it's important.
How about sound? Do you need 4k or anything better than 1080 @30fps?

Really, once you know what you actually need it's much easier to narrow the selection.

I have a GoPro Hero2. I got my money's worth years ago. Good system and it's been around a while.

Garmin also released their own line last year. Track record is much shorter, but it's a Garmin and it looks like an interesting system.

A screen really isn't the point...the camera is generally for capturing things that you aren't going to redo. What you get is what you get, and memory is cheap...if you can just record it again, what you did is probably not worth recording.

Isn't Sony still stuck on their shitty proprietary memory format from ten years ago?

Really sucks to not know what you have until you download everything to a laptop.....................

Biggest complaint of action cam users is not being able to have immediate playback for review - Sony has also included this feature on there ActionCam's

Sony uses MicroSD for memory!

Doesn't the iPhone app let you view the videos from the GoPro3?

Holy crap, they're back?

I always preferred their formfactor over GoPro since I prefer hat/helmet mounted setups.

I like the sony ones too at their pricepoint, but the automatic slow-mo when recording at 60fps was a dealkiller. They also didnt' record sound at 60fps, but I don't know if its been fixed with firmware yet.

I think GoPro is the best choice right now. Contours at regular price just can't compare video quality wise at their price point (unless it has changed since they came back). My Roam2 videos barely compared to the old gopro hero 2's.
