Hell has frozen over and I finally have Cable modem service on the way! I'm looking for an 8 port router. I'll have (2) Win2K, (2) Win98, (1) Linux server on the network.

What I need is NAT, PPTP pass through (must work with Win2K!), MAC address spoofing, static port mapping. I want FTP, HTTP traffic to go to the Linux box. I also need good support for on-line gaming. I need flexible IP address range on the LAN side. I cant use 192.168.x.x due to a conflict with another network. I'll be using 172.16.x.x for my hosts, and set them up statically (no DHCP). I don't need a print server. The popular ones are Linksys BEFSR81, Netgear RO318, SMC 7008ABR . They all seem relatively similar in features and price.

I've looked at user reviews at practicallynetworked and some other places. I see cheers and jeers for each of them. It hard to judge by that. Any input is much appreciated!

Thanks!

I have SMC, Netgear, Belkin, and Linksys routers. Nothing beats the SMC for simplicity and performance. The others setup pretty easy also, but the SMC has been a better performer.
