I will be changing my dated HD4890 soon, probably by new year's time, and I'm having a hard time picking a suitable upgrade with the crazy new prices and a great deal of issues with the market segment I'm in for. After some research, I've decided to settle for an HD7950 over the 660Ti because of its great overclocking potential, huge amount of memory, bus width, better future proofing and great raw performance. The only problem now is which one to pick.
I was thinking either the Sapphire 7950 or the neat-looking triple fan solution from Gygabyte, with the Asus TOP edition also coming into consideration. Which do you recommend?
I've also heard some fuss about the 7970 boards being used for 7950s, how does this affect performance and which card should I get, a reference board model or a 7970 board with one 6 and one 8-pin connector type?
Other card suggestions are also welcome, but bear in mind that 670 and 7970 are out of my budget's reach. I game at 1080p and AA is kind of important for me, but AF is crucial (if that makes any difference). I won't be playing much BF3, strategies like Civ V and Supreme Commander FA are what I'm expecting to run good on this card along with shooters like Crysis in multiplayer, Far Cry 3 (which I'm hoping to get free with the card), Far Cry 2 and others.
