Which dual DVI card would you recommend to power my dual Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW's LCDs?

Requirements:
  • Something mid-range (6600 based) and stable
  • Fanless or quiet
  • I am not a gamer or OC'er
 
i got this one for my freinds PC .
the XFX 6600 PV-T43P-UDS7 GeForce 6600 256MB DDR2 :

it has Dual-DVI and is factory Overclocked to 450MHZ and has 256MB DDR2 clocked at 800MHz .
this thing is amazing for the price and performance .
performance equal to a 6600GT .
he got 3410 3dmarks in 3dmark2005 , on the following setup

Intel Pentium4 630
Intel D945GTPL
Kingston 512MB DDR2- 533
Samsung 80GB SATA

Which is better?

Something stable and queit is more important to me than how powerful it is in gaming.

I'm just not sure what I should be looking for?

whichever is cheapest. As a caveat, you should understand up front that 6600/GT are not going to be able to push your monitor's resolution in really any games at all. You would proabably need at least two 6800GTs or even 7800GTs.
 
He is not a gamer, and I agree the cheaper one is the better pick for the intended purpose. No point in spending extra money on performance you don't need.

Now to decide if I keep my 2nd 2005FPW or sell it, I don't really need dual LCD's and I could use the $$$
 
If this is for a htpc the 7600gt is better, it uses less power and has additional supported features for high def content, including reverse telecine and bad edit correction.

Even though you're not a gamer, think about whether you'll need ALU oomph to do hardware video playback acceleration. More math means less work for your CPU if you're doing something silly like 1080p.

Not to imply that these entry level cards will accelerate 1080p to the point you could view them on something like a 3000+, but a minor factor even if you don't game.

There are plenty of X300 and slower entry level type cards which are passively cooled. If you don't game and don't need the math power, why not go cheap?

I would prefer NOT to Mod because:

1) I'm lazy.
2) Would have no clue how to install a fan.
3) Refer to #1

NeezyDeezy - This is for my Dell Dimension E510 desktop not HTPC. I want it quiet because I'm slightly anal 😉
 
I'm pretty much in the same boat with my needs... I want something than can push some screen real estate. I don't game. I don't overclock. And I want it to be quiet... My solution was 2x 6600 PCIe with passive cooling.

A couple of good points about that XFX card: 256MB, factory overclocked and SLI connector. The downside is the fan... I suspect with the GPU being overclocked it needed it.

For me the quietness was more important... I went with 2 of these when woot had them on sale. The passive cooling mean ZERO noise. That was my biggest complaint about the XFX 6600GT I had (that fan LOOKS very familiar actually).

I went so far as to yesterday swap out the stock AMD HSF to a Zalman. 2nd one of those I've bought and love them. By comparison the PS2 (what I grab to play a game or 2) is LOUD compared to this PC and this thing has a X2 4400+, 2GB RAM, 4x WD Raptors in RAID5, 2 large PATA drives, and a DVD burner sitting in a Antec P180 with an Enermax EPS12V-650.
