I searched, but didn't find anything relevant.

I've been looking at Panasonics mostly, and that's largely because of the good things I've heard and the fact that I have friends that own them.

A few facts to make the choice:

1) I have my own speakers.
2) I intend to wall mount it; however, a stand would be nice just so I have the option.
3) I'm not so concerned about 1080i/p. Maybe I should be?
4) I have an Xbox 360 that uses HDMI, but that's it.

As you can see, I'm not a huge HT enthusiast. I mainly just want a great picture with a unit that will last and look good on the wall. I'd like to spend < $2k.

Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

Thought I'd note that I've been looking at the Panasonic TH-50PX75U. The professional version seems to be about the same price and it lacks HDMI, so this seemed like the best bet. Thoughts?

Spend $500 more and get the new Pioneer PDP-5080. Invision Displays has it for ~$2500. COMPLETELY worth the extra $500. Of course, if you didn't want to spend the additional cash, the Panny is the best bet. The commercial model, some people claim, has a better processor, but I don't know for sure. It's pretty damn popular at AVSForum though.

That panny was $1500 shipped from Outpost a few days ago (no taxes if you do not have a frys), purchased one for my grandfather. Priced jump immediately after I bought it, FatWallet Effect.

I've had my TH-42PX60U (last year's 42" version of the one you're looking at) for about a year and I've been thrilled with the set thus far. Either the Panasonic or the Pioneer that SLCentral mentioned are good buys.

It's actually pretty good. We sit about 6-8 feet away from the set and watch a good deal of SD programming, and the quality is definitely better than my in-laws' 32" Westinghouse LCD.

I have the Panasonic TH-50PX60U in my family room and I can tell you that the panny plasmas are great.

I also have the 42" panny EDTV plasma in my bedroom and haven't had a problem with either.

The price jumped a lot at first, but it's back to $1599 shipped with no tax for me. I'd consider getting it, but I don't want to deal with any return issues if there are any problems.

They typically will not let you stack the coupon on the price match...but certain people are different...you can always try
