I want a 5.1 speaker set-up under $100. These Logitech Z-640's look pretty nice. I need a soundcard to fully benifit from them though? I looked on newegg for Creative soundcards and there was so many . There was like 5 differant Audigy 2 ZS's and ES's and gamer edition's and what-not. I only need a 5.1 card, right? Which one should I get? I will use it mostly for gaming.

Get the Gmers Edition of the Creative Audigy 2zs. Comes with 5 games, including Jedi Academy, Halo, and Rainbow Six 3 (All great ones).

The 640s are good, I won them; decent "chea" 5.1s. The 680s are the best you can get (but the price jumps on you JUST a little :)

He's right, the z680 speakers are fantastic for 5.1. Though they do cost more, you can be confident that you've got one of the best speaker systems available. I highly recommend them.

Kind Regards,

can't go wrong with logitech speakers. it's however much you want to spend. 50 for the z-640's, 150 for the z5300's, or 250 for the z680's. all depends on your price range but you can't go wrong with any of those choices. the z5300's fit into my budget and i couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I suppose the Z-640s could suffice for a budget 5.1 speaker setup

Anyways as far as sound cards for gaming goes, the Audigy 2/ZS is your only choice if the newest EAX version is a requirement for your gaming experience. IMO on a tight budget I'd go with the Audigy 2 (OEM version).

AFAIK you'll need @ least a "5.1 or more" onboard audio solution or sound card to support a 5.1 speaker setup.

The Gigaworks and the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultras both outclass the Logitech Z680s. But... I just read the original post, and saw that he wants speakers for under $100.

But the z-680s are more than that too, so you guys are as guilty as me! :p

5.1 for under $100.... I don't even know what to recommend. Not my field of expertise.
