which 3dmark?

I just built a new system (details below) and I'd like to test my video before and after I OC everything. Which 3dmark should I get?

03 and 05 cause 06 gonna hurt ya eyes fps wise. I really hate 06 lol.

Use 3dmark 06 and pay attention to the individual scores; write down your CPU and GPU scores, independently.

I would recommend 06- you'll get lower fps, but a more accurate all-around score with independant CPU and GPU scores, like gersson said.

Are you guys using the free version or shelling out the cash?

And what real world use does 3dmark have? I'm truly interested, but just new to the whole testing of my system thing.

2006 is going to be rough on a 7900GT, but you should still run it to get a good idea of how your system is performing... don't let the low fps's get you down though, real games will run a lot faster in most cases & some of those tests will humble my 8800GTX.

2005 will look quite a bit better & be a lot less painful to watch, but its not as useful as an actual tool.

2003 is great for an ego-boost & some eye-candy, but not much else.
