Which 3D card for 2D?

I currently STILL have a v3 2k. I love it's 2D. I have bought and returned 3 products with nvidia cores because the 2D was so horrible. I do lots of txt and html editing on my 19" aperture grill flatscreen, so its really easy to notice the difference. Id just assume go out and buy a matrox, but I play lots of games too, and this v3 2k is getting slow.. not to mention is unsupported.

How does the Kyro II's 2D stack up to Ati's? Which 3D card currently has the best 2D?

best mix of 2d/3d is the radeon AIW VIVO i believe.

even my old trident have fast enough 2d... about 2d quality they are so close that no one would tell the difference ...
about 3d performance...
If you have a good cpu and want to play at 1024x768x32 or better or FSAA kyro is just much better...

In many cases yes, but as he has stated he evidently DOES notice the difference.
Try running at 1600x1200 for awhile and the differences in 2D quality start becoming quite obvious to many people. Differences below 128-x1024 are usually extremely negligeble however.

I'd say the 2D quality on the Kyro 2 is a notch below that of the ATi Radeon but both are far superior to NVidia's 2D quality.

On the one hand, if you buy a Radeon, you'll have 2d that's second only to matrox, and good performance for today's games. On the other hand, if you buy a KyroII, the image quality might be a little worse, but you'll have even better gaming and FSAA performance. To most, the 2d image quality might be negligable, but you might be able to tell the difference. If i were in your position, I would go for the Radeon

May I know what is AIW mean when people says radeon AIW VIVO. I only see radeon vivo on pricewatch. What is redeon se ? Also, what people mean when they say flash radeon to 198/198. I am new to ATI thanks.

The Radeon SE is a regular Radeon 64 that has 5ns DDR on board. Also the default speed of the GPU &amp; DDR are increased from 183mhz to 198mhz. These &quot;new&quot; versions of the Radeon 64 have been known to overclock into the 230s. As far as the bios flashing question. Someone on Rage3d got ahold of a bios for the SE and people on that site and anandtech are flashing their &quot;regular&quot; radeon bioses to achieve the same default GPU and DDR Speeds of the SE. This flashing of the bios does nothing more than overclock the &quot;old&quot; radeon to default @ 198mhz.

Don't confuse AIW with the VIVO cards, they are not the same thing, they have different inputs and outputs, so people are crossing 2 different cards together.

VIVO= Video In(composite video-in only), Video Out(composite,s-video)
AIW = All In Wonder, has video in(TV tuner via coax-in, composite video, s-video-in)&amp; Video-out(composite, s-video)

I'd pick an ATi Radeon as my first choice and the Kyro2 as my second. The Kyro2 has a slower RAMDAC than the rest of the industry and this might make a difference in very high resolutions. Both cards have very good 3D performance.

What about the GeForce3? Many say it has A LOT better 2D now.

(I don't have my P4 box up and running yet to find out, however, I have a brand new Asus V8200 Deluxe waiting to be used!)

Oh the pain of knowing the power I have without any CPU and RAM. 🙁

Hopefully, I'll order it on Monday as I was paid on Thursday! 😀

300 mhz ramdac should be enough for 85 hz (90hz?) at 1600x1200x32

ramdac speed as nothing to do with 2d quality...
only more refresh rates...
