which 22" lcd: Acer AL2216WBD or Dell E228WFP

Allow me to kick in a recommendation for the Chimei 221D - $249 at Newegg. It is extremely nice. I love mine. Some people have complained about the fact that the base isn't great, but I could care less since I used a different mount on mine anyway. I looked at other 22" monitors in Circuit City (I live pretty far away from everything else ;( ) and my Chimei has a clearer picture and better color. If possible, I'd look at them in a B&M first. If you are willing to take a leap of faith, though, the Chiimei is a great value.

I would go with the Dell E228 because it will likely have better service in case of trouble during the 3-year warranty period.

I like my Acer. I'm sure that the Dell uses the same panel, made by Chi Mei, so they willl probably peform the same. I would go for the Dell, just becuase the base looks a lot nicer. The base on the Acer is very cheap. It does the job, but has a cheap feel.

I have bought the Dell 22" for a customer last week. It's a nice monitor, build solid. I was impressed with how well made it feel like. The blacks are very nice on it too. I would go with the Dell 22", but Acer is a good company, and they usually have a 3 year warranty also. But I think that Dell is probably a better deal on the build and warranty. Get the Dell. Was $292 shipped last week for me.

I bought the Samsung 22" last week as well at Sam's Club, got the extended warranty for 3 years. Monitor is covered for 6 years now. 🙂 love that.

If I'm not mistaken aren't dell monitors still made by Sony? Sony makes a good screen if so. I do work in front of a 19 inch widescreen lcd at 1400 by 900 at work all day, and it looks very nice, Acer is good for the money, but if the money is the same and Dell monitors are made by Sony, its a no brainer, just a thought.

Last time we had this thread I think the conclusion is that all of the current models use the same 22-inch Chimei panel.
