Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a 19" LCD to replace my aging 22" Iiyama CRT. I have been looking at the Samsung 191T and the Viewsonic VG191, however i'm sure there are other monitors out there that i should be considering.

Obviously if this was an ideal world i would purchase an Eizo, but like most normal people i have a budget, so try to keep it reasonable.

Also, is there any advice you would want to give to a potential LCD buyer?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Either the viewsonic or the samsung will suit you well. I'm looking at a viewsonic vx900 (it was cheaper than the vg900 for a while) and i love it. love it love it love it.

Edit: I mean i'm actually looking at it, not that i'm thinking of purchasing it. Oh sweet crisp text--I love you so.

I spend most of my time writing/surfing with a little gaming on the side. I haven't noticed any ghosting, but some people do. It's more than bright enough, and more than enough contrast.

I can't stress enough how much better it is to write a paper on this than my old KDS.

The only reason you wouldn't want one of these monitors is if a) you play lots of fpses and a1) can notice the ghosting or b) you do lots of stuff in a fixed resolution that isn't the native resolution.

If you have any other questions PM me.

Thanks for your reply, however the problem is that i do play a lot of FPS's... and i'm having kittens about whether or not i'll be kicking myself with a 25ms response. I've also recently discovered the:

Hitachi CML190SXW / CML190

Anybody have any clue on these? And the difference between the vanilla and sxw variations of the monitor.

thanks

The only thing you can do is go to a place with those monitors and will let you play an fps on them and see if you notice ghosting.

Oh, and depending on the video card you're running you might want an upgrade so you can play them in the default resolution.

Make sure you have DVI card. I just bought a Samsung 191T, and it looked awesome on my friends Radeon 9700 Pro. I have an analog g3 ti200, but I'm going to purchase a new system in a few months, probably with a radeon or nvidia card with DVI. It ghosts a lot in coutnerstrike, but when i played q3 and jedi knight 2 at Best Buy on the same monitor, tehre was very little ghosting. DVD's and even divx rips look good on it as well. I was surprised by the DVD quality. I kind of wish you could get a higher res panel, but i think my eyes will forgive me when i don't go 1600x1200 anymore like i did on my crt. I plan on tweaking this thing a bit, and if it improves a lot i'll let people know. I already improved it a ton by getting the correct driver for it off windows update.
