Which 19" LCD do you recommend?

Thanks for the advice guys. 😀 It comes down to either the VP191B or the 2005FPW, with me leaning towards the latter (the latest price looks quite good).

The question is WHERE can I get a VP191b. Newegg and their 8 dead pixel policy is so BS. That's like getting a burned CPU basically and saying you can't return it.....

I am leaning towards the 193P+ right now. After rebates Compusa.com has it for $530ish. 0 dead pixel policy from Samsung is awesome. Stores aren't going to be very receptive to a low pixel policy because do you think they want to have to keep retrying when Fedex is playing soccer with your LCD? I used to work shipping and receiving, and now I wish I'd never seen what they do... I was really onto the VP191B but for the few dollars of difference with a poor pixel return policy I think I've made my decision.

edit: insert foot in mouth. I forgot just how much cheaper VP191B is. It's a good choice for sure, I would freak out with a dead pixel though.

Previous statement retracted. After being told by several people that Samsung instituted a 0 pix policy I called and found out it only covers South Korea.... VP191B I should think.

I have had the vp191b for about a month now and it is great. It is a great all-around lcd. I upgraded for a big 19" viewsonic crt and have not looked back. It is an 8bit panel and has great color and no ghosting that I can see. I would highly recomend this monitor to anyone. That being said I just bought a 2005fpw so I could have dual screens (it will be here tomorrow). If you would like I will let you know how these look side by side.

For settings for my vp191b I found this http://www.prad.de/board/thread.php?threadid=18458 and the settings in the post work great.
Hope this helps and if you want a comparison of the vp191b and the 2005fpw let me know.

Yea problem is B&M shops don't have VP191b. I would freak out over a dead pixel too.... sniff sniff

* Newegg's 8 dead pixel policy is their way of saying that you should call the manufacturer directly (not Newegg) if you got too many dead pixels. Most LCD manufacturers will deal with end users directly, including for dead pixels. It does mean you probably won't be going to the store though to complain; you'll have to stick with a B&M store for that. But hey, online's cheaper. Whether you choose online or B&M depends on whether or not you're willing to pay that extra "insurance" (in higher prices) to be able to go to the store and get a replacement if there are any dead pixels. Actually, if you're going to a store, just take out the monitor you'll be buying out of the box and test it out directly. That saves time in that you won't have to go to the store again to try to get a replacement.
* Fujiplus's price is only due to mail-in rebate which you won't get for at least 10 weeks, which is beyond the date which you can dispute the charge with your credit card company if they never deliver the rebate, which is usually 60 days (do you really think a company really needs 10-15 weeks to process a rebate?). Unfortunately, we won't know whether they're actually going to be fulfilling rebates or make customers fight for them until after the 15 weeks have passed, or sometime in October-November. So best copy all your documents before sending them out (via registered mail), and be ready to harass them and threaten to file with the BBB if they don't deliver on their promised rebate. Good luck.
* Yes, what was missed with all the hoopla surrounding Samsung's announcement over New Years was that their zero pixel defect policy is valid only in South Korea (Samsung is based in South Korea). Their U.S. policy is still the same, at 10 dead pixels or more needed (for 17" and 19" monitors) for replacement. Presumably their customer service takes over before that happens.
* You have a roughly 70% chance of getting no dead pixels at all.

A comparison of the two monitors would be great please'lucky2'. 🙂

I am particularly interested in the Viewsonic VP191b, i wasnt sure between this and the VX924 but from what ive read here i think the VP191b is better.

I also rang Viewsonic and the sales guy said that the VP191b is much better generally if you can afford the extra money.

Hmm, any of you have any experience of Acer AL 1951? Looks pretty slim and the specs are high-midrange level..

I would be interested in that comparison as well...especially 2005 running non scaled 1280x1024 games...

these are the two monitors I consider buying at the moment...

I saw the L90D+ at this local store and it was just amazing. No lag or ghosting at all. I see why toms liked it so much. I didnt buy it there becuase it was $475 so I ordered it at zipzoomfly for $345 free 2day shipping. I should be getting it this wed.

I flip-flopped between the Viewsonic VP191b and Dell 2005 widescreen for a month. During the last week of July Dell released stackable coupons that brought the before tax price of the 2005fpw down to $389 before tax. Compared to $450 for the VP191b at Newegg, the 2005fpw was the better deal. The price coupled with the novelty of widescreen computing tipped the scales for me. Plus the native resolution was another pro for the 2005fpw. The native res on the VP191b is the same as that of the 17" monitor. Stepping up to a two inch larger display doesn't buy any more real estate. Compare that to the whopping 1650x1050 res of the Dell and there's no comparison.

So far I've only gamed with CounterStrike: Source. The 6800GT has plenty of power to get smooth gameplay with medium-high settings. I haven't noticed any ghosting but, there is some motion blur at times. That said, now that I've had a taste of widescreen gaming I love it.

As far as office productivity goes, the text in Word and Excel docs is nice and sharp. Plus, I can have a browser open alongside a Word document side by side and view each window in their entirety.

... my 2.5 cents.
