where's your favorite vacation destination in the US?

Lake Tahoe, Cedar Point, Las Vegas... Should make it out to Cedar Point next season (2008). Hopefully I'll be there for 2 days since theres so much to ride plus the water park. You could spend a month in Vegas and still not see everything, on top of the gambling.

Catalina Island. At least of the places I've been so far. Maybe its just the fact that its an island but it feels more remote then it really is.

Las Vegas (anytime), and South Lake Tahoe (winter skiing at Heavenly + gambling = FUN).

Non-US: Atlantis resort in the Bahamas, or St. Maarten/St. Barths in the eastern Caribbean.

My favorite vacation is camping and fishing with the family. Thus, Black Lake in NY is my favorite destination (I go there every year.)

Aside from that, I have a few particular beaches that I really really enjoy going to. I like to snorkel - one in particular in Florida has TONS of things to see in the water. There's a really nice combination of sandy areas for swimming and rocky areas/natural areas to attract "critters." The one thing in common to all of the beaches that I like: we're usually the only people within 100 yards or so on the beach. That's the key! I hate crowds.

Hehe, I hate crowds, but I think that I hate critters even more so! 😀

Northern California near Eureka and Crescent city. I love going there alone while fishing off the secluded rocky areas along the ocean shore.

Yellowstone, in either the first week in May or the last week in September. In the spring, all the babies are out, none of the motorhomes are there yet.
In the fall, most of the motorhomes have left and the bull elk are bugling on the lawn at Mammoth Hot Springs Lodge.

For me: the couch/bed at my own house.

When I really need a vacation, what I need is just a break from work, rest time to spend around with friends/family, time to take care of projects that I've pushed back, and time to just relax.

When I want an adventure, I couldn't care less where I go. In the last 8 months I've taken vacations to Manhattan, Boston, San Diego, Kansas City (twice), Pella Iowa, and small towns in Nebraska. All were equally good as they all met my need for adventure.

Boston rules

Depends on the kind of vacation.

Yosemite works.

In the valley with a girl.

In the back country with a pack with guys.

key west was fun, I also liked Galveston TX. Grand Canyon is Classic, vegas is fun if you have $$

Galveston is nasty.

Thats what I was thinking.

After having lived there I tend to agree.
It is a thin veneer of touristy stuff with ghetto sandwiched in between.
The seafood places rock though!

If I tell anybody else about it it will soon suck.

but for my money...in the US...the outerbanks. there is no clearer definition of heaven in our Lexicon..

I know some private beaches (you have to navigate marsh land on a 60hp boat and battle tide charts to get there--so I'm not worried about overpopulation) that can't be beat anywhere you go.

At this time it would be Disney World, for the way my little girl lights up when we go there and visit her friends the princesses.

Disneyland was my favorite place in the world when I was a kid. We lived in Oregon so we used to drive down every year or two, but my parents couldn't afford to fly across the country to go to Disney World.

My first trip to Disney World was with my wife and 4 kids in 2005. Next month will be our 4th visit, so you can probably figure out how much I enjoy it. It's a lot cheaper now that we live in Charlotte and can drive down.

How is the drive down there? My wife and I love Disneyland and went at least once a year when we lived in the SF Bay Area. We want to try Disneyworld, and wow that we're living in Raleigh, NC it's much closer to go. We were considering flying down there, but if the drive isn't too bad we may just drive.

8-10 hours straight. Fantasy Island for the adults...but why bother? just stop at South of the Border if that's what you're into 😛

If you have kids...then suffer the trip. It will be more than worth it....

agreed...that's why the best vacation spots should (will) remain safely anonymous.
