Check out Engadget for live details...

doh..forgot the stupid link!
So its thin, its got a massive 3.5" screen, and its running OS X! If I didn't work for a competing wireless carrier, I would most certainly be drooling right now...

bah, cingular ruins it for me... I don't have good cingular service out here. What does it mean when they say they have an exclusive partnership with cingular? It seems like that would be counterproductive. I would be more likely to buy it if I was able to choose my own carrier.

that means they have a multi-year exclusive contract that ONLY cingular will be able to provide this phone and service on it.

And even VZW doesnt work that great down there in SWVA ;)

Cingular is worse down here. I had it when I first got here, and was forced to switch. I suppose it could be better now, but I'll have to check and see.

I have VZW and have had no problems down here. It works very well here in Blacksburg and pretty much everywhere I have been in the surrounding area.

My point still stands that I think Apple would sell more if they didn't have an exclusive contract with a single carrier. How can that possibly help them? Unless Cingular is paying them enough to make up for it... which is entirely possible...

Meh...I'm probably in for one. My current phone is 3-4 years old. I refused to upgrade b/c of my amazing plan with no contract. Perhaps I'll buy it unlocked and stick to T-Mobile...if that's even possible...

I'm interested in learning more about how this works. Can you do this with pretty much any phone?

Yup. I'm pretty sure most, if not all, GSM phone can be unlocked and be used by another service provider. The problem is unlocked phones are EXPENSIVE.

That's OK, this phone is already obscenely expensive as it is! What's another $200 on top of a $599 price tag? :)

$600 with a two year plan?! I think i will pass. Looks like a pretty sweet gadget though.

edit: its really not all that innovative at all though. They have been doing this stuff with PDAs for years.

It's about the size of a PSP only 10mm wider 10mm shorter. Might as well get a UMPC with skype.

i dunno why ppl are jumping on this thing... based on specs alone (which is all any of us can tell as no one has tested/reviewed it yet) it's probably the best smart/mp3 phone hands down. 4gb or 8gb of built in flash memory, super thin, amazing (wide)screen, touch sensitive, WiFi, bluetooth (with EDR, A2DP), 2MP camera, OS X (to run widgets, itunes, etc), looks fantastic. the only draw backs, i suppose, are that it's cingular only (although i'm sure there will be unlocked versions and personally, i like/use cingular right now) and the price tag. however, for a device that (based on specs) destroys everything else on the market, a high release date price tag is not that surprising. i'm sure a year or so after release, it'll be nearly free w/ 2 year contract...

we'll have to wait and see what reviews say of this thing once it's out in june, but i personally am very impressed & excited...

it has the same problem the ps3 has... way to expensive to jump on. damn cool, yes, but $600.. PLUS the 2yr contract?! I don't need a smartphone anyway, just a cell and an ipod. The google maps thing is actually really cool, but do I have wifi available to me all the time? no. Am I going to pay $60+/mo on just data from my carrier? hell no.

i suppose having the touch screen and all.. apple had to go all out to make it worth while to make and still make money. But the market for this seems to be very very small.

This would make a very nice new iPod though.. slap a notebook drive on the back and you got yourself something to sell.

It's amazing how stupid people who are normally smart get when hit with slick advertising and a lower case I
