Where's the "Hide Icons on Desktop" feature again in XP?

I did this before just by tinkering around in XP but now that I actually want it, can't find it

Right click the desktop, select Arrange Icons By, in the menu that pops up, uncheck the Show Desktop Icons box. Done

Hmmm. I don't see that option in the context menus for any of my WinXP desktops, mastertech01. Is it possible that that feature has been added to your system by a utility or have I just missed something?

The way I know of to turn the standard (My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places, Internet Explorer) desktop icon displays on or off is to use the Customize Desktop button on the Desktop tab of the Display Properties dialog. And the Recycle Bin icon can be turned on or off through the Desktop section of TweakUI for Windows XP.

I also have that option with plain XP!

Hmmm. Wonder if it's a configuration setting that causes my desktops not to offer the choice. If it is, then I've been pretty consistent. There are 8 WinXP Pro systems here, and every one of them fails to offer that choice. I am a pretty methodical guy, but I can't think at the moment just what setting might have caused this choice to disappear from the context menu.

I do turn off a lot of the Explorer stuff like Web view which is superfluous for my needs. I suppose it must have something to do with that.

I dont know for sure, as I havent tried it with a raw install, but I do know I have MS Power Toys installed as well as support tools. I dont know if that has any bearing on it, or if I have something enabled that you dont.

I'll try my wife's computer at home. She has WinXP Home Edition there, and I don't think the installation has been leaned on too heavily yet. I'll come back to the thread if I happen to learn anything pertinent. Thanks for your response.
