I remember getting my license when I was 16 and driving home with my mom in the car. But the first place I drove alone was to my best friend Brian's house. He lived 2.3 miles away from me and we used to ride bikes back & forth between our homes. I remember driving all by myself to his house one afternoon, and pull up his long hill of a driveway, then pulling around to the front of his house and getting out and I felt bigger than life. Should have stuck to the bike, it's better for you.

Cars, to me, are dirty, but very useful tools. I'm happy to not own (or lease) one, to be honest. As for your original question, I can't say that I remember or care, it's not a big deal, IMO, but then I was much older (20s) when I first got a DL so didn't have this notion of "needing freedom" or however that goes at 16.
