I can turn on Fox News and see a pretty strong right-wing bias within a couple reports -- take a recent "report" on social security for example. the newscaster announced that the democratic party was gearing up for a fight over new social security changes, and then the rest of the segment was Dick Cheney speaking to the press about the SS crisis and how great the new Bush plan will be. no commentary from or about the democratic party's view whatsoever.

I watch CNN, and I'm just not seeing that kind of biased news coverage. Am I just to close to the left that I'm not seeing it?

I'd like some serious answers... I've never understood why certain people refer to it as the "communist" news network, and I'd really like to see the other side of this issue.

edit: spelling

several months ago cnn did a jobs reports, which they very breifly covered the jobs numbers, which was a very good month for new jobs. They then spent at least 5 minutes discussing layoffs. I could have sworn our very own dave wrote this report.

MSNBC for one. Not that that is liberal either.

BTW, contrary to popular myth, the New York Times is right wing as well.

This illustration should help you see the reality: No right-wing corporate influence in New York Times, is there?

Watch aaron brown...notice the little comments he makes after one of the stories runs. He's an obvious liberal.

Just because their is nothing more liberal than cnn, does not make it liberal.

Almost every story on CNN has a anti-Republican/anti-conservative angle to it. They were recently running stories about the cost of Bush's innauguration. Did they ever complain about Clinton's innaguration costs? Every anchor on CNN moans about Bush having no mandate to govern. But Clinton never got a majority of the vote in 1992 or 1994. Did he have a mandate? Did CNN even bring up that issue? On Bush's proposed social security reform, every news piece on CNN has a totally negative angle. Of course, maybe left-wingers will say that CNN is trying to "show the other side" of the story. But did they ever show the other side of any piece of legislation that Clinton proposed? It was all puff pieces, IIRC.

A good website to go to is www.mediaresearch.org . They catalog daily instances of media bias.

Can you give specifics? Like actual quotes?

ROFL. There's an objective group for you. Their stated mission is to expose the "liberal bias" of the media. They have even criticized Faux News for not being conservative enough. They are, in effect, a branch of the RNC. Their opinions re. others' objectivity are meaningless.

Having a specific goal favoring one side or another does not mean they aren't objective. They are just public about what they are doing, unlike the MSM.

Show me the ONE msm news station that stood up a said NO to the war..... *crickets*
Nope, they jumped right in and positioned themselves between bush's butt-cheeks the whole time.
NOONE had the liberals back and none have yet to back us up.
If we even want anything vaugely balanced -it's foriegn news.

Showing a 30 second blurb of a "left" issus that is obviously geared to discredit the cause does not make them
a liberal media source

Someone asked for instances that prove CNN has a liberal bias. So I posted a link to a known conservative website that documents instances of liberal bias on the news. I made no claims that they were non-partisan.

CNN is pretty fair INO. I like CNN although its not as lively or flashy as Fox. Fox is more entertaining to watch in my opinion.

That's because the news is not supposed to take stances on issues, you dumbass. They're supposed to report what happens, not make it up.

Still, that doesn't stop them from subtle bias, which they pull off by selecting some stories and not others, and putting a slant to everything they show.

Before the Iraq War, the media went out of its way to portray how wonderful things were in Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Dan Rather went to Bagdadh and had a puff piece interview with Saddam Hussein. That's about the most he can do. And right after the invasion, CNN complained about some pottery that was broken in a museum in Baghdad. That was their way of being negative about the war.

Compare that to CLinton's strike on the former Yugoslavia. That was always portrayed in a very positive way, because it was unfashionable to oppose Clinton wars.

Ummm... no. The quote wasn't misleading at all. It's not like I misquoted you or "fixed" your quote like some people did.

I said CNN was a fair news organization, Wolf Blitzer is one of the best interviewers on tv. But Fox's shows like the O'Reilly Factor and Hannity and Colmes are very high in the "entertainment" factor.

Right and that had nothing to do with your statement about like Fox because it was flashy. Hence I excluded it.

Well it did, because I watch boths news channels time to time. In fact lately I've been watching more of CNN, as they have done a great job in handling the tsunami disaster.

My quote didn't suggest you didn't watch both channels, only that you were attracted to flashy things. Thus it was not misleading. If I had tried to present you as only liking fox then why would I have included the part that said you liked fox?

Well if flashy "things" are presented in a smart way I will watch it. By the way, even though most anchors on Fox lean to the right, even if slightly, they do present news fairly. Usually both sides of the issue are presented, and two guests are on. If there is only one guest the anchor argues for the opposite side.

People just think Fox News is conservative because it actually has some conservatives on, and makes an attempt to show both sides of the story. To liberals that's bias, because they think all conservative ideas should be suppressed as "hate speech", like they do on university campuses.
