Ok here is the conclusion (which will start a new thread 🙂 )

Got a letter from Citibank saying they recovered the funds and it has been credited to my account. I logged onto my account and sure enough there was $2500 sitting in there. I didn't say anything to the LL until a couple days later he tells me that Citibank sent him a letter with the same information.

I dont reply or say anything to him because we found a new place to live and I am holding that money as collateral which I'll get into in the new thread.

I call and email Citibank and they cannot give me any answers as to where the money was recovered from.

I'll reserve judgement until I read your new thread, but holding onto rent money from a long ass time ago doesn't seem like the right thing to do.

wow at not giving the landlord his money finally.

wow at how you said you really wouldn't be ready to move for a 'while'.

sounds like a planned evacuation strategy.

I said long ago that if you filed a report with your bank that the withdraw was fraudulent they could just take the money back.

FYI It is your BANK that is responsible for the withdraw, if someone deposits a check with a forged endorsement, the PAYER BANK is responsible. It is your bank that is responsible to make sure the endorsement is legit before it hands the money to the other bank.

we all knew this. This is why I think this was a 'published' power play by the OP to get out of his own piss-poor choice of a rental he agreed to.

Not to cast "Raise Thread", but where's this new one? You weave intricite stories and I wanted another one to read.

I decided that it was my best interest not to publish one. There is too much information in this thread that can be traced back to me. Google search results will link bank when certain things are looked for.

That being said........

My family has moved on. The landlord has moved on. Whomever cashed the check is unknown to me. My bank was able to retreive the funds after I signed the affidavit. Those monies were returned to the landlord for March 2012's rent.
