i know we've discussed in my previous thread but which version? i checked amazon and there are like three or four different versions of hd280's. i'm not sure which one certainly will fit me well.

These?

I have a set. They're nice, a very snug fit that may be a bit too much. If your ears stay warm and moist you may get an ear infection may be an issue with extended listening. They shut out external noise very well also, even when they're not playing any sounds.

Personally, I would recommend these over the HD-280s.

I've had the HD-280s and was impressed at first but pretty quickly moved on. I haven't used the A500s, but I'm currently using their big brother the A900s exclusively for my headphones. I prefer the AudioTechnica sound over that of Sennheiser's. Also, the AT's are a lot more comfortable to me. I do know that for gaming (and all around use) the A500s get a lot of recommendations at HeadFi.

I chose the A500 over the HD-280 two years ago for reasons I can't recall 😛 out of all the other cans I have owned, I've kept this the longest 🙂

A500s sound much better than the HD280s, but just don't provide the same level of passive noise cancelling. So, a pretty fair trade off, I'd say.

Bass seems like the biggest complaint about the 280s. I agree that the bass is reduced in them compared to several others I have tried, but I'm pretty happy with how they sound.

Knowing how loud a lot of people have their bass pumped up (for speaker systems at least), I can see how a lot of bass from other headphones would appeal to people. I've been quite guilty of running my sub waaaay hot on occation just for fun... but almost exclusively for games/movies rather than music.

That said, I think that my 280s come fairly close to what I have become used to in my SPL meter + test tone calibrated speaker / sub system in terms of how loud the bass is in comparison to higher frequencies.

Link to different versions?

dynamic collapsible
silver closed dynamic circum-aural
pro

I think those are all the same product with just a different color scheme on the silver ones.

eh? ok i'll try to choose one of them then.

Yeah, you can see on Senn's site that they only list the 280pro and 280pro Silver.

The specs on both looked the same to me glancing at them.

In your links, the two black versions of the HD280 are the same, and the silver one is just a different color.

I personally hate the HD280. It clamps my head and it sounds very dry.

Juno, what are you going to be using your headphones for?

From the OPost, it looks like gaming.

Actually OP, instead of choosing the HD280, you'll probably like the Audio-Technica A500 more. The sound is more balanced and easier on your ears (sound-wise and comfort-wise). Both me and MrVile have heard the HD280 extensively, and we have the same opinion - it's pretty crappy 🙂
