Right now I am currently a freshman at the University of Vermont... ever since my sister spent a semester Down Under, i have wanted to study abroad. So heres my question. I was considering England or Japan, both of which seem to be very interesting to me.

If you could study anywhere in the world where would it be?

thanks

Go where you know the language. If you want to go to Japan, learn Japanese first!

Right here in the good old U.S.A. Why do you need to go to another country to study? You really want to try to study in a country where you won't have access to a decent library or something?

I also find the whole Asian culture very interesting... having talked to some co-workers who have lived and worked there... it would seem like a good choice. Of course you would have the whole language situation, but I think the experience would be awesome

I'm not so sure Keego, I spent some time in Puerto Rico and while I don't speak the native language, it was still an experience that I would not give up, it was fun and educational IMHO.

Oooh, those are my top two countries also. If I had to pick one though I would go Japan. It's more different from America than England is (not to say England is like America, but Japan is still further from being like America). What ethnicity/race/whatever are you if you dont mind me asking?

Well one point is that you can't really know a language unless you're immersed in it, but a bad thing is you don't know if people are talking about you :)

Probably England or Italy... perhaps Hong Kong too

EDIT: but now that you mention it, Australia would be fun as well...

I think that is pretty obvious.

my sister spent a semester there and she loved it.... she supposedly spent an insane amount of money while there but she said it was worth it.

England, Japan and Australia are probaly my top three

Well yeah its obvious, but I'm just stating that is for me personally why I woudl choose one over the other. Unless for sure you're going to get the opportunity to travel again in the future, I would say go for the one thats most different. Geez, no need to get all pissy...

Sorry, didn't mean to come off as pissy. Just didn't see the reason why you were posting such an obvious thing, thought it was a postcount ++. Anyhow, I would like to go to Japan too, see what it is like there. One thing about Japan though is they don't like outsiders I don't think. It literally the most homogenous nation in the entire world. It is very difficult to move to Japan unless you are in the military and are going to be living on one of their bases. As for studying abroad though they would probably let you in.

Personally I would choose England. I have never been there, but the history and culture would be pretty cool. I would also like to go to Australia, but I don't think I would like to study there.

As far as Japan goes it is kind of a closed society. Plus there is the whole thing with NK and all. I would probably stay away for a while and choose England.

Yep, definately a closed society. Possibly a reason why their economy has tanked in recent years. No new ideas from other countries flowing.

I would go with England - facinating place to visit. There are tons of great castles, and the Tower of London is great!

I have a friend in Japan on an exchange program and he is not having much fun. He is pretty bored most of the time.

Germany. Universitat Wurzburg.

our germanic studies department is offering a summer abroad program there, but im too broke to go =[

one neat thing about it is its proximity to all the other european countries... id imagine if you were to go to japan you wouldnt get a chance to be exposed to as many different cultures
