this is the one I was thinking about getting

if you click on the 'zoom picture' you'll see all the components in the style.

i was thinking about getting the desk and then just buy the hutch that fits on top of the credenza.

then put the hutch on top of the desk.
No offense dude, but that's one ugly mofoing desk. 😱

Get something a little more...modern? Please? Unless you have an actual "library" room in your house?
I agree with the above posters.. the modern stuff looks cheap.

i'm looking for a functional piece of furniture (i'm >30 yrs old). the room where this will be has a large china cabinet that holds about 300 of our books.. so it is a 'library room' now that i think about it.
In that case, go for it!

I second that, check out some pictures Jerker

Agreed. The Jerker is a great computer desk. It's not necessarily the prettiest thing in the world, but it's nice and deep if you have a CRT monitor, plus the modular shelving system allows you to store a bunch of stuff on it. It's even quite sturdy (for an Ikea product 😛). Overall, it's very practical and it doesn't have a big footprint.

go to a furniture store for a GOOD one... otherwise get a cheapy at office max or something like that.

What he said. You cant beat solid wood. I am not knocking Sauder and Bush and other put together desks, but the fact remains that solids last longer and handle time better🙂

I wouldn't buy anything from Office Depot. Still all pressed wood crap. It will fall apart after a few years. Get REAL WOOD or metal. You pay more for it but it lasts soooooo much longer it's not funny.

But, I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm using my coffee table as a computer desk because my old one fell apart after the years finally. I live in San Antonio and I've sorta been off and on shopping for real furniture desks. I need to hit up Diane Flacks and such later. The problem is, I've hit up a few real furniture stores and they don't have crap for office furniture at all. It's annoying.

Although if you pay enough, you can have something REAL nice. You should check out my table I use for my laptop in my living room. $3200 and weighs a ton 😛

Ikea or get one custom made. Don't buy one of those ugly Office Max or furniture store desks that suburban soccer moms buy because they think they look classy.

i built mine, thanks to wood technology class from high school and construction job for the skills i learned.

my jerker is 4 years old, its been taken apart and moved 5 times
for the majority of its life it has held TWO 21" CRT monitors (heavy fvckers)
three sideshelfs (one with a 19" CRT, one with giant printer, and one with 17" CRT)

I've sat on the desktop WITH the two 21" CRTs with no damage (and i weigh 250)
everything is adjustable, and there's tons of accessories you can get (including cable management stuff)

i have my surge protector mounted on one of the back panels and all the wires are attached to the panel as well (so there's no cables touching the floor)

the top shelves holds books, speakers, cds, beer cans, etc

i plan to buy 2 more jerkers within the next year
