Where would you go on your (last) spring break?

I'm 22, I work at a K-12 school as the IT department, and am finishing my Associates' degree, looking forward to starting on my Bachelors'. Next year I'll be working in business somewhere and won't get big long paid vacations anymore, so April 5th - 15th is my last chance to take a real vacation.

I want to know where you would go and what you would do if you lived in Cincinnati, OH and had a $1K budget. I want to go a few places I haven't been before, and I've been to Florida, Colorado, all the states in between, all around the east coast except inside NYC itself, and to Niagara Falls.

I could grab a last-minute flight + hotel package to somewhere, or drive around. I do have a dependable car.

Vegas isn't really my thing either, I'm no good at gambling and that just isn't my scene.

Suggestions?

With that budget I'd probably go for an all inclusive package to Cancun, Mexico

I stayed here in Negril, Jamaica last spring break. It cost me about $1050 including airfare. The place was absolutely beautiful, and it was one of the best weeks of my life. Highly, highly recommended.

My last spring break, for 2005, I went to Costa Rica with 2 other people, had a great time. Surfing was nice in Tamarindo. Round trip airfare from LAX was under $400, and split the cost of hotels 3 ways, and pretty much ate cheap. It also helps that you have people who are fluent in Spanish, cause my friend got quoted a better rate for a hotel in Spanish then what was posted in English.

yea, it was incredible. The resort was beautiful, food was great (and we didn't even go to the "nice" restaurant that you had to make reservations for), and having taps everywhere that you can get your own beer from...what else can a college student ask for???

Backpacking on the AT. The Georgia and North Carolina segments should be spectacular in early April.

Is what I'd do. Do you need an escape to be content? Do you feel that you need to get away from your current situation for 10 days or are you merely doing it out of tradition?

Tradition? Hardly. All my vacations so far have been with my immediate or extended family and I've never even been out of the country except across the border at Niagara. I've never gone on a spring break before. I want to go somewhere new and very different than Ohio. No it doesn't have to be expensive if there's a cheaper option out there.

Hawaii would be nice if I could find a good package but they all seem to start at $1200. The place Deeko mentioned is $1200 or more just to stay for 7 days.
