where would you build a zombie survival compound?

Probably somewhere in the middle of my current home state, Pennsylvania. There's a nice, large area of sparsely populated land in the central-northern part of the state, seen here. I've been up in that area before and trust me, there is NOTHING up there but farms and large expanses of open land, making it the perfect bunker location (in my opinion).

What I'd probably do is buy out a farm and base my fortress on that. I'd build my bunker complex underground. I'd put my egress/ingress point somewhere inside of the farm's house and set up some sort of solar-powered video surveillance system nearby so that I could make sure I'm not walking out or in to some zombies.

Zebo got me thinking about water. I'm thinking that I could get away with a very deep, protected well, something deep enough that it would be shielded from radiation or other contaminants.

For power, I'd ideally base as much as possible on natural energy, like wind and solar. The rest of the power would be supplied through multi-phase commercial diesel generators. I'd have the room for a stockpile of fuel, but I'd also most likely have access to other stores of diesel from the other farms in the area should I run out.

Air would be filtered and pumped in and out through vents located inside of the barn and/or house. The diesel exhaust would also be pumped out via one of these routes, though obviously not the same one that I'm using for HVAC.

In case you couldn't tell, I'm going for stealth here. No need to draw unnecessary attention to myself, from either the undead or other humans.

xanis the silos have 40-80 ft of hardened epoxy concrete surrounding them, no need to reinvent the wheel with limited time we have other preps to make. perhaps setup a rig inside silo for your well? I would also want as low signature as possible therefore everything would be internal. water pump, storage tank, oxygen exchangers, dehydrated food, fuel source etc. If you depend on anything outside like a solar panels or wind farms the Zombies could lay siege to your compound by destroying what you are dependent on...plus it stands out like "here I am"

Exactly what I was thinking. Critical things like water pumps and oxygen exchangers would all be housed in the main complex, which would be surrounded by a lot of concrete and earth. Didn't know that about the silos though, I could definitely utilize that. I'd have to rethink the natural energy thing, good call on that. I don't want to rely solely on diesel, but I don't want to stand out either.

Alaska, Low population density. Its cold so hopefully the zombies would freeze. Would have to store a lot of food and fuel though.

near a walmart distribution center, so i could resupply
i'd build a tunnel under the ground from my compound up into the walmart distribution center, so i could get more stuff

make sure it is in a state that walmart sells guns and ammo, so there would be plenty for backup

I'd go find some Inuit and live with them for several years. The Arctic would be my compound, and I'd have a couple dozen survival experts available 24/7.

Definitely not a country where they ban guns. As we already discussed in another thread, such peoples would be totally unprepared for zombie invasion.

But would they take you? You have to be able to bring in your body weight in seal blubber daily to be man enough to deserve lodging. 😉

somewhere here.

Obviously, somewhere that has never previously had an outbreak of real zombies.

Any place else would be too risky.

I considered under ground but that seems depressing, zombies are bad enough without being shut up inside 24/7. If I had the cash I would build a 10 story building with rooftop garden, lots of windows on the top floors with only the top 4 floors or so as living space, everything below that would be to support the upper floors with some sort of anti-zombie architecture. Place it on an island somewhere. I can get solar power and heated water and grow plenty of food.

Doesnt Cheyenne mountain have a reactor or two? With unlimited power you have unlimited food.

It has natural gas for power and enough supplies and water for 2,500 people for 30 days.
The idea is that if they have to stay locked up inside for more than 30 days then the threat is so bad that their is no point in staying longer.
