Where would someone in the US get an A4 3.0 TDI 6 speed?

I REALLY want to bring back an A4 3.0 TDI to the states, specifically Minnesota. This isn't something I plan on doing in the near future, but in the next 2-3 years.

I know Canada got them? I know Germany has them, but it'd be more expensive to import back.

My question is, how would I deal with warranty issues? Would they warranty the vehicle in the states, or no?

I really wouldn't be surprised if they don't have at least an A4 over here with some TDI in the next 2-3 years. Problem is that it will likely be the Tiptronic version and of lower displacement than the 3.0. Who knows...maybe they would bring it over with the DSG.

The 3.0L is supposed to be a peach of an engine (nearly as good as the inline 6 diesel in the BMW), but people buying diesels in the US these days seem to be more concerned about fuel economy than performance. I expect the A3 diesel to do well because of this.

blegh, I dislike 4door A3, looks a bit wagon'y to me.

I love the look of the A4, and A5...I wouldn't mind a 3.0TDI, or a 2.0TDI...as long as it was 6 speed.

Would there be an issue if I imported it straight from Germany, or Canada?

Does Canada even have the 3.0TDI line?

I do not mind the DSG, I just really prefer manual.

I have heard importing/tax is very expensive unless you are moving (and then there are a lot of stipulations). I'm not an authority...just what I've heard.

I think your best bet is to pray for Audi to have success with the A3 and decide to bring some flavor of the A4 with a diesel over here...and hope it comes with a manual. Based on the fact that they are not even offering the A3 diesel with a manual...I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Yeah, I read about that a few months ago. Do they service 3.0 TDI's in the states though..that might be an issue if they don't sell them here.

I am looking through their current like, looks like A5, and A3 TDI's don't have QUATTRO :(, only frton-trak.

The A4 is the only one with 2.0TDI, with QUATTRO aspects. The german 3.0TDI has QUATTRO with 6 speed if I recall..that's the one I want :D

I would definitely say you will run into a lot of issues and would likely have to order parts straight from Germany (not that the dealers don't have to do that 90% of the time...they just won't do it for you in the case of the 3.0 likely...but an independent shop likely would if you pay them good money).

The A5 is even sold with FrontTrac?!?!...disgusting. I hate that CVT (at least the one I drove in a B7 model...hooked to a 2.0L TDI).

I like my B7 2.0T..but i'd really like that 3.0TDI in a 6 speed quattro.

Yeah, they sell 'all' models with FrontTrac still :S.

That is just weird.

Probably be easier to do an engine swap. You might get it registered at the DMV, but it's not certified by the EPA to run here. So if the Feds wanted they could swoop down and impound your car. Servicing would be hard as no dealer in the states would be properly equipped or educated in servicing the 3.0 diesel. Doubt the warrenty would transfer across the pond anyway, so any problems would likely be out of pocket.

Would be a nice car to own, but not nice enough to go through the hassle and spend as much as it will cost.

All of these reasons. To be honest...just get the BMW 3 Series diesel. It's a better engine (at least smoother and more powerful...don't know about reliability), comes with a manual option, and warranty/service is all supported over here.

RWD :( no good in the winter here in MN.

Didn't realize they didn't offer the 335d with Xdrive option...but a good set of snow tires should be enough...but I won't go down that argument...I know how many different opinions there are on that.

Wow 3.0L Audi Diesel! I haven't googled the stats, but can imagine that's things a torque monster :) Have no answer to your question, but that sounds like a good time, and I'm not even a diesel (or Audi) fan.

240HP and 369lb ft of torque. I want that Avant with manual in the picture with the exact engine...unfortunately I would have to get transfered to our German or Swiss office to make that happen...not sure if my wife would go for that :(

The 3.0 TDI is available in the US currently, in the form of the Q7 TDI. I think this has only been available for a few months, hopefully it will trickle down into other models...

...and that A4 3.0 TDi Avant in the AB link is an utter badass.
