Merom has just been launched, so its a safe bet that it'll be the number one choice for laptops in 6 - 8months, but the GPU world moves alot faster so where will laptop bound GPU's be in the same time frame?

even tho i've just ditched my gaming rig, for a 360, having just watched a quite spectacular video of the new UT2007 and looked at ET:QW and Field ops and supreme commander im left feeling maybe i should get a laptop with a bit of grunt so that i may be able to play these title's whilst still maintaining the convenience of the laptop.

do you think we will having something akin to a radeon X1900XT in 6 - 8 months?

i cant see any reason why there wouldnt be a mobile variant of the x1900 out by then. the only possible problem would be that the x1900 series draws a hell of a lot of power and this would gimp its usefullness as anything more than a desktop replacement. There are already laptops out now with Geforce Go 7900GS, GT, and GTX (they even have SLI 7900gtx's in lappy's now if ya have the cash) GPU's in em giving MORE than enough horses to run anything u might want to. Go with a 7900GTX GO and you won't be unhappy, i can almost guarantee that.

at the moment theres no doubt i would chose a nvidia solution, they are easier on the power consumption. though im sure ATi are very good at this also. id imagine we'll be using 80nm or lower fab processes so heat/power may not be such a hinderence.

only problem is im looking at models with 1920x1200 res 17in WS :p

im not really after a completely mobile solution, it is going to be a desktop replacement, and even when it leaves the desk, its only going places with a power socket in the same room.

You need the best of the best if you want to drive games at that rez. Try a laptop with dual 7900GTXs...

well not really. i plan to run a 20-21 inch WS display off it for when im at my desk at home, you know use it like a normal computer with seperate keyboard an mouse. im picking up a samsung TW215 or whatever its called, which is 1680x1050 so i dont need that much gpu power.
