Where were you on 9/11/2001?

I was a chief resident in surgery in a hospital in Pittsburgh PA. I was in my office waiting for my case when I heard about an "accident" at the WTC. I went down to the surgeon's lounge in time to see the second airplane crash. We then heard about the crash in Shanksville. We cancelled all of our elective cases in order to be ready for any survivors that might come in. After a couple of hours, we realized that no one was coming in. It was a very strange mix of sadness and anger that I felt.

I was in 8th grade and they hardly told us shit until one of our teachers let us watch the coverage in the afternoon since so many rumors were going around.

I was a freshman in highschool. Was about to leave for school and a lady from the church I went to called and told my mom to turn the tv on. At that time only one tower had been hit. While on our way to school, we were listening to the radio, the second tower was hit. Spent the whole day at school watching the news in disbelief.

I was at Tuesday morning classes at RIT. I was in the library when they rolled in some televisions on carts and truned them on.

Was in school @ breakfast break, my mom called and told me and then all we did was watch the coverage for a few hours then go home...the drive home when every radio station had the same coverage felt a little eerie.

I was at home alone and my ex called telling me to turn on the TV because an airplane had just struck the WTC. I was expecting it to be a small plane but as soon as I turned it on and saw the damage I knew it was a much larger plane... then I saw the other plane live as it struck the second tower. Total shock. Hard to sum up my emotions at the time, or even now for that matter.

That day forever changed the way we live our lives now.

RIP to all that died that day, in the ongoing wars, and my sympathies to the families of all of those affected by the events.

Was watching the news and when the 1st plane hit, the reporter was speechless, kept saying, is this live?

Thousands of people wouldn't have died if the New York City Fire/Police Department evacuated both buildings immediately especially since the building was previously attacked in 1993 with a car bomb.

Fast forward 10-years, are we any safer today from a repeat attack, probably not.

i was in a hotel sleeping, and buddies came over, and later that night we went to a party and we got wasted. what is so special.

It was my 2nd day as a freshman in high school. We opened late that year because renovations to the school weren't complete on time. I was able to catch a couple of glimpses on one of the TVs in the library where others were gathered around during our 5 minutes in between classes. We were told to go through our normal schedule for classes and that we wouldn't be going home early or anything. For some reason, the teachers were instructed not to turn the TVs on in the classrooms which really angered me because I wanted to know what was going on. We were able to listen on the radio in our science class for the hour that we were in there, but I didn't really understand exactly what was happening until I got home from school and turned the TV on. I was shocked. I can't believe it's been 10 years already, it seems like it was only a couple of years ago.

I was in bed, my dad ran into the room in his underwear and told me to get out of bed and come watch the news.

Went to school and the entire student body was put in the gyms and auditoriums to watch the CNN coverage, as many of our grads worked in the WTC.

high school. sleeping. woke up, heard something about a plane hitting something, figured your standard cessna with a student pilot type deal and went back to sleep.

8th grade biology.

We were supposed to take a trip to Washington DC during 8th grade, but we weren't allowed to after 9/11. Terrorists ruined my trip 🙁

Sophomore year in high school, doing drug unit presentation work in health class. The principal came by and whispered something to our teacher, who began getting his TV cart setup. When someone asked what was going on, he said that the WTC was under attack.

Fucking prick.

To answer the question, I was in school and they called us all into the gym to tell us the news. A few hours later, my father had picked me and all of my cousins up and brought us to the family business and we then went home.

I was laying out a bridge at MD43, and heard it on the radio. When I got home, I dragged the TV out for the first time in years, and watched planes crash into buildings for a week. The TV went back in the basement, and I haven't watched it since.

I was in grade 11. Had a weird schedule that year. First period was a spare, then had one class, then lunch. I was at home eating breakfast, had the local morning show on in the background. The news anchor came on and announced the WTC had been hit by a plane. I can even remember what I was eating: apple oatmeal. Funny how the brain works. By the time I got home for lunch, the towers had collapsed. The following days were pretty weird. I lived under a major flight path so it was the first time in my life that I'd never seen any planes.

I've mentioned this film before but I think it's worth a look for those who haven't seen it.

Uses raw footage from amateurs shot that day. One of the most moving documentaries I've seen.

Not this again. Do a search, there's an exact thread with 500+ replies. All unique, touching and somber.

Woke up a bit after it happened and surfed the web until I saw what happened on yahoo then continued for a bit until I remembered my parents were flying out from Minneapolis the next day while visiting a relative there for a vacation to Florida and called them and sure enough they were going to head back home instead the next day since all the flights were canceled.
