MTV was already in existence when it was finally added Rollins Cablevision in Wilmington, DE where I grew up. I think I was 13 at the time.

MTV Europe played "Money for Nothing", by Dire Straits first.

Another reason why Europe is a third world country 😉

...

I didn't get the memo. When did Europe become only a country, instead of a continent?

When Deslok became an idiot and tried to say Dire Straits suck 😛

I know it was Video Killed the Radio Star, but I wasn't born when it aired. I googled to find out when it first aired so I could answer that part of the question and turns out, it was just over a year before I was born.

Wow, I could have named several of those off the top of my head without googling. I guess that dates me as well. Any of them still work for MTV?

And, the first over-played video (IMHO) was Jack and Diane 🙂
They used to play a LOT of Yes, but I never minded 🙂

before MTV (for the old timers here) there was HBO's video Jukebox. Thats's where i first saw this video and correctly predicted to my friends that this would be the first video MTV US played.

I was 21 and living in Venice, CA. MTV began as it should have but after the first several years devolved into the complete crap it is today. Too bad, it was good back then.

did Friday Night Videos come before or after MTV?
Must be after. We used to watch "In Concert" before MTV.

Edit: And there was one other very popular music show but the name escapes me. Midnight Special? I think that was it.
