We only stopped over in Iceland for a couple days to ease jetlag going to mainland Europe. There's no fare change with Icelandair to do so

Thanks! We were planning on doing the 'Stop over' icelandic air flights (not that there are a lot of other options from the US)

The Blue Lagoon is probably the only place in Iceland worth visiting if you have limited time.

If you are a serious explorer you may wanna rent a Jeep and drive the perimeter. If you stop off and see shit it will take a while. If you race around the highway in the summer you could do it all in one day.

We are thinking a couple of days to let us get out and drive some but we won't be able to do the entire perimeter.

Taking a day to get over jet lag was a terrific choice, imo. We went and spent that day at Blue Lagoon, got a couple massages, relaxed, etc... It's a much shorter flight from there to Paris, and we weren't at all hurting for sleep when we arrived. My folks had to crash hard since they flew non-stop to CDG from Chicago, and still suffered the next couple days.

Starting in Iceland also trained me to relax and accept that I was going to be spending a ridiculous amount on money on that trip.

In the past year, 6+ states.

I just spent some time in Denmark, Germany, & Austria (several other countries briefly). Heading above the arctic circle hiking, camping, etc..

Any pointers\recommendations on Iceland and Brussels?

(Brussels) Old town, which isn't extremely large but is worth the visit (imo). There's a few "popular" things like the small peeing statue which are famous for whatever random reason. Try the waffles & chocolate since that's what Belgium and Brussels are famous for.

If you have a car, drop into the German side and go from Cologne down the Rhine river for a couple hours (at least to Koblenz or possibly Mainz). The castles and unique German style are prevalent throughout the valley.

We're currently planning on doing that as part of a potential vacation in the fall. I have friends in Cologne and we'll spend a couple days there and then drive down the Rhine Valley, stop for a few nights, and then over to Rothenburg and the romantic road into the Munich area. We're hoping to then take a train to Austria and finish there.

I never take traditional vacations. It's too much money that can be used for something that lasts more than a week.

My last trip was to a wedding in Traveler's Rest, SC.

Wife and I spent a week in Destin, FL a month ago. Next week I'll be at the in-laws for a week in IL.

One day, you will be old and most of your life will be behind you and you'll think to yourself "I really blew it when I was younger and didn't see the world."

I can't pay off student loans, a mortgage, raise kids, save for retirement, save for emergencies, and fix up the house, and go on vacations. There isn't money for everything.

I also don't like running down my vacation balance. I keep it as a cushion in case of job loss.

If you don't have the money, that's one thing. If you have the money to do it but prioritize possessions over experiences, that's another.

China for 10 days, but it wasn't all vacation because we were competing in dragonboat races for most of it.

Vacation? I remember those. I took one in 2007 and stayed home. I just came back from San Diego, which was fun, but it was for work with my bosses, so I don't count that.

I was on a beach in California, smoking some weed, watching the sunset and the beautiful women walking on the beach, but then my boss tapped me on the shoulder to wake me up. It was a good 30 sec vacation.
