Where to sit on a plane, barring first/business class?

Is it better to sit in front of the wings, on the same rows as the wings, behind the wings? Or does it really not matter?

I've ALWAYS sat in the back of the wings, so i really have no clue if it'll be any different (quieter) in the front. Where do you guys usually choose to sit?

Ask to be one of the emergency folks. You know, the ones that sit next to the emergency exits on the planes. In my experience, that is always the roomiest spot in coach.

my thoughts on all the seating positions -

Front - less people in front of you so plane seems smaller, also infront of engines so quieter
Wing - smoothest ride still quieter than the back
Back - bumpier ride, louder (sitting behind the engines), longest wait to get off plane
Front and back often have to deal with extra bathroom traffic and / or smells
Exit rows - bad bc the seats dont recline - this also includes the row of seats in front of an exit row. tho it is nice to sit BEHIND these rows bc they cant recline onto you
First row in coach is good - no one in front to put their seat in your lap, also a bit more legroom than usual (downside is no carryon on the floor for you)
Aisle - can stretch out, ez entranc/exit from row, not as cramped feeling. downside is you have to get up everytime someone needs to get out
Middle - sucks, you are sandwiched, and sometimes have to get up for the windower
Window - still cramped, but at least you get a view

I don't know about you people, but I prefer to be in the plane not on it! :p

It's quite cold and windy otherwise!

Cheers!

best seat on the plane if not in first/business is always the bulk head between first and coach (that first row in coach) You get the leg room of coach, easy out, get on the plane towards the end, quiet (unless there is a door there- depends on the plane). Best place no question-- hard to get though.

Window seat, towards the front. Bulkhead is the best cause I can put my feet up on it.

i'm a fan of forward in cabin window seat.

not really quieter, but better view if you're in front of the wing,
and not as bumpy a ride- the tail of an aircraft has far more "movement" up/down if you get sick
if you get the exit rows those are best cause of leg room.

I've never been a big fan of the aisle...it's my LAST choice.
