Where to post?

How do you know whether to post to General Hardware or Peripherials? Couldn't Peripherials be removed/combined with GH? Or else a more detailed description under the forum name as to what should/shouldn't be posted in each?

Also why have a Tech Support forum when most all the other forums are used for tech support?

Of course. And why I said more detailed description.
Its not just be, many people have a hard time knowing where to post. I see it all the time. Plus doing a search shows results on the exact same topic in multiple forums.

I don't think it needs to be any more detailed than it is. It is perfectly clear. The fact that nincompoops can't read/haven't seen it or post in the wrong forum doesn't change that. That's just the way it is. The Mods can't be everywhere. And to be perfectly honest with you if you want fast tech help, OT is the way to go. It has more readers but will be locked/moved quickly there.
Not that I am condoning that practice or have ever tried it.

It's obviously not clear or I wouldnt be asking, and wouldnt be seeing the same topics in multiple forums. And I'm certainly not stupid.
My point is people like me do know the descriptions are there (as I said in the other posts), and they help out some, but they still don't tell enough to know where to post some things, like to General Hardware or Peripherals. Or to Tech Support or another related forum. Really my main original question was why General Hardware and Peripherals couldnt be combined. What's the difference? Do you know? How do the descriptions differentiate the two? Maybe with some minor changes, the mods wouldn't have to be everywhere. :)
I would give people on here more credit. I think for the most part, most that make mistakes probably do try to do right.

So General H is just for printer ribbons? :D I guess also CDRW media. :)
A printer is a peripherial.

I bet these make sense too:

peripherials = "what kind of ribbons are the best?"

general = " so would a firewire or usb 2 external hard drive work better and which ones would you recomend ?"

or
tech support = " so would a firewire or usb 2 external hard drive work better and which ones would you recomend ?"

Anyway, as you can see I'm not a newbie on here. The AT forums have been good for me and I'm just trying to help. There's usually always room for improvement. Having used it this long, I thought these were areas that could use improvement. Who knows, maybe when AT switches to FT4, it'll all be different anyway.

A printer is a peripherial.
he he i didn't say printer ribbon but i think that your on the right track. seems to me that just about anything can go in general hardware but we should try to keep it to very general questions and very specific questions for the more specific forums .
i guess the final arbiter is if the mods move it or not .
