Where to place the thermal sensor?

My new mobo came with a thermal sensor. A wire that plugs into the mobo with the other end having a plastic flat sensor.

Assuming this goes somewhere new the CPU or heatsink, where exactly should I put this?

Thanks

Anyone have any suggestions??

The board has a winbond chip, so I don't think I need this for the CPU or Case temp. I guess I could put it on my video card or maybe not even put it in at all.

Is the thermal sensor supposed to measure CPU or case temp?

If it's for CPU temp then put it underneath the heatsink BESIDE the CPU core. DO NOT put it between the CPU and heat sink (very bad).

If it's for case temp I'd put it somewhere around the middle of your case. You'll probably get a pretty good idea of the average temp that way.

Basically, it can sense whatever I want it to, but since I already have a winbond chip that takes care of the CPU and Case temps, I think I will not install this.

Thanks,

What mobo are you using? If it is non-intel I'd question the accuracy of the built-in temperature probes. Why don't you use it to in beside your cpu core and compare?

It's an Abit TH7II-RAID (i850/Socket 478/P4) and I am still in the building stage. Waiting on the RDRAM to complete. I probably will not use the sensor at first and mess with it later.

Thanks
