so i got this laptop for christmas, and while the GPU on it is good enough to do some gaming on, it would be great if it had a faster graphics card. i was looking around online for a place that sells them, but it seems that newegg doesnt sell them anymore, and i cant find a place that does. any ideas? RE5 is only playable on low texture and shadow quality on the GT240M and even just going to a GT250m would be a huge boost (double the SPs), though i was hoping to see what a mobile HD5xxx would cost

Extremely unlikely that you'll be able to do something like that. GPU chips are usually soldered into the motherboard.

While a replacement might be available, finding a source is usually a problem. Acer usually uses the MXMII type cards, but who knows exactly what is in yours without a spec sheet and diagrams.

Do an ebay search to nvidia MXM and you will see some available but they are probably older than what you have now.

You also need to make sure that your laptop can power and cool the new card (even if one is available to fit in your laptop). Truthfully, the ONLY laptops that have replaceable video cards are some of the Sager custom-kit laptops, and even then, most of those are limited to replacement of the motherboard, and graphics card as one part/combo (i.e. you need to replace all of them to replace one of them).

This is also the reason why I always buy the laptop with the best graphics card available at the time of my laptop purchase.
