Where to live around Chicago?

Well it looks like I may be moving to the Chicago area in the next 3 weeks. Im looking into renting a town house, but I am not really sure on a good area. So Far I am looking into Naperville. Anyone know the best area's to live in? Please do not factor price into it, I am just looking for the best "suburb" type area to live in.

Any have advice?

look into shaumberg or palatine as well. if you plan on commuting into the city from a burb be prepared for a really looooong commute.

I live about as far North as possible and can get into the city after about an hour (driving) or 1.5hrs (train)...it's not THAT bad. Maybe if you live way West...

Where will you be working/going to school?

Cant go into to many details here (IT related). But I will be commuting to wherever the job is at on any given day. So it will change every day. I will not be going dowtown at all. It will be all over the suburbs. I will be based out of my home so I do not have to be central to any location.

Buffalo Grove or Vernon Hills or decent but not crazy expensive.

Thanks, I will check those out.

Lisle is a sh!thole. At least the two parts I've seen. My aunt used to live there and she actually broke her lease to get out.

Schaumburg if you are not looking for city. Schamburg and Naperville area have a great night life.

That sounds pretty bad to me 😉. 2 hours a day is significant portion of your life.

Yeah Naperville is where I keep leaning towards. Its expensive, but its worth it if its nice.
Looking at about 1,300-1,500 a month rent for the places we like so far.

Right now I live about 2 hours west of chicago. Probably going to drive in next weekend and start checking some places out.

Thanks for the heads up, you just saved me some time!

Geek Squad huh?

😀

I'll say Elmhurst then. You'll be close to the 290 and the 294, which will get you to any suburb you want, or any highway that gets you to the burb of choice.

Elmhurst

Woah Woah Woah....I was raised in Lisle, it is by no means a ****** hole, especially if you are looking to buy a condo/townhome. It has great access to the Metra to get downtown, I88, I355, etc.. to get anywhere and it is close to "The Ville". The only downfall is high property taxes due to small tax base. EDIT (In response to post calling Lisle a sh*thole)

Lisle is a fvcking sh!thole. Both times I was there, I felt like my sh!t was going to get ripped off. The highrise apartment that my acquaintance lived in smelled like piss. The neighborhood my aunt lived in had three cars stolen in two days.

My friend used to live in Schaumburg...had two places there, matter of fact. Great place! I'm from the suburbs of Detroit so it was very similar...maybe not quite as much money, but still safe, clean, plenty of places to shop, relatively easy access to the highway. About a 30-40 minute drive into the city though, and you can take the Metra too.

The hell are you talking about? It's like 10 feet from Naperville and Woodridge.
