Couple years old, back light went out. Purchased at CompUSA. They say $600-1600 depending on type of LCD I replace it with. It's a 14" LCD in it, and I believe it's the backlight that's gone out on it.
The LCD is the most expensive piece to repair. Usually runs about $400 and up depending on the laptop. You might as well get a new one. You can do a search on Google and you'll get a bunch of results. LCD Repair. Hope this helps.
I traded for a laptop with a smashed screen. Dell wanted $600 for a new LCD. I bought a fairly close match on eBay for $125. I had to install it myself though; it wasn't identical either, but very close. I needed to do some twisting and folding with the cables to let the LCD lay flat. Plus I needed to glue a few tiny jumpers onto the inside of the case to position the new LCD in place. But it is working just perfectly for me now; been working nicely for...maybe a year already? Or darn close to it. I can't remember anymore when I got the laptop.
Even if you can get an LCD on eBay, if you need to have someone install it for you, that may cost you a pretty penny.
