Where to go for recycling OLD computer stuff?

I have about 6 computers that are pre-286 days and their monochrome monitors but have no idea what to do with them. Now I have heard that I shouldn't just toss them out since they pollute or something along those lines (how they pollute more than regular garbage I don't know) So I tried a search for recycling old computer junk but there is not much information. where can I take this stuff?

If the computers are functional, you can probably donate them to a local charity. If not, try seeing if there's something listed here that might work.
