Where to get STD and related tests free or cheap?

Please do NOT thread crap here

My ex had cheated on me with who knows how many people. I'm in a new relationship now. I want to get tested since we're getting more and more intimate everyday. I've tried calling a few local doctors (I live in a small town), and they are freaking expensive. Since I'm not in college this semester, I can't go there. I also don't want my folks to know I'm getting tested so it is coming out of my funds.

What sort of places give free or affordable tests?

I'm near Austin/San Antonio area in Texas if that helps any.

Thanks

PP. Or if you're still at school usually your university's health care center will charge a minimal amount

After you check out the PP site go here or your local drug store and get some protection.

Its amazing how many people don't use their big head when it comes to relationships and sex. What logical excuse do you have for not wearing a 'raincoat'?

Yes I am crapping on your thread. Deal with it.

We had been together for 4 years, and she was my fiancée. Wish your father had worn the 'raincoat' at all times, so you wouldn't be here to thread crap. :disgust:

Thanks to all others for the suggestions. Just made an online appointment :) 15 hour shift tomorrow :(

Not long, depends on the test though.

My friend went in for a test and they had to collect cells from inside the penis. This meant they needed to put a Q-Tip inside his pee hole for a few seconds. He didn't do it though, but you might have to Davi! HAH!

Oh well. As long as it still works after they're done with it. :sun:

County or city public health departments are supposed to offer these kinds of services for an affordable rate, but in some areas the public health department is as expensive if not more than a private doctor. Your tax dollars hard at work.

Its worth a call, anyhoo.

Tests that used to require this can now be performed through urine/bloodwork. They are no longer invasive for STD tests.

I hear those are fun, they take a pipe cleaner like thing and...

its a very long q-tip, not fun, never had one though.

From what I have heard, they usually just use the Q-Tip for getting a throat culture. No biggie really.

If you have gonorrhea in the advanced stages, you've got worse problems than worrying about a q-tip. ;)

Oh my, this is just too good to pass up. It wasn't too long ago you were ripping into Alkemyst because he's one of those horrible people who has had unprotected sex. Now you're asking about where to get tested?

The irony is breathtaking.

Good luck. I'm happy that you are being responsible about this and not passing anything on should you have anything. Sorry to hear about your ex. That really sucks. But, it's better now than later. I'm sure you are pissed at her anyway, so who really cares about her, right? Good luck with your new gf.

We used protection for the first 2-3 years. Within that time period she had been tested, and so had I. But that was in college and tests were free. The last year we were together, we didn't use any since we were engaged, and she had been on BC for the longest time (even when we used protection). Then I find out that she had been cheating on me.

I understand what you're trying to say, but given the situation I don't think it's ironic at all. I'm not going around intentionally having unprotected sex with random people/ married people/ people I know who are in another relationship.

It'll definitely be breathtaking when I get my results :(

Remember, get it anonymously though if you can. Prevents insurance rates from skyrocketing.
