Hi,

I need to buy a replacement compaq presario 2800 motherboard to fix a dead laptop. I have been looking in ebay and they are selling at ridiculous prices. Any of you guys now any alternatives to ebay?

Thanks

What is the model from the bottom of the computer? There will be a model number like 2830US or something like that.

And this is why everybody says get the extended warranty.. LOL.. Sorry but Odin is right Lappy Mobos are never cheap. Most of the time when they go it is time to get a new lappy..

The one in the laptop has 64mb video ram (board p/n 285254-001) but one with 32 mb (p/n 285253-001) should work fine. Again Im looking for the cheapest.

The laptop is not mine, but imho It does not make any sense to fix it for more than $100, especially when you can get a new one for $~500.

You don't want to buy a motherboard from a non-authorized repair center anyways. What if it comes dead? Buying from ebay gives you a high chance of being shafted.

eBay for laptop parts is as cheap as it gets. I highly doubt you will find one for under $100. They are rare and expensive because the OEM's only manufacture surplus boards specifically for warranty/repair purposes; once that supply is gone, its pretty much gone for good.
