Where to get Japanese-made Panaflos?

Hey, All,

I've heard that Panaflos are now being made in China. Are there still any of the made-in-Japan ones still available, and does anyone know of a vendor still selling them (at a reasonable price)? SVC maybe? (They sell Panaflos but don't specify which ones they are.) Suppose I could call 'em on Monday, but thought I'd ask here first.

If it matters, I'm really only interested in the 12L or L1A (same thing) and the 120mm one (don't know its model # off the top of my head). A friend of mine is building his first computer and I told him I'd try to help him find some of the 'good' made-in-Japan Panaflos.

Thanks in advance for any points in the right direction. 🙂

not trying to pimp svc.com, but I just got a bunch from them just yesterday
Cheapest price I found so I ordered. To my surprise, they're Japan flos.
But as always, YMMV

That post contributes NOTHING to this thread and belongs in a flame war over at P&N.
I only quoted you so it can't be edited:frown:

JBDan, thank you for the link on the fan review. That is the type of info most of us come
to C&C for.

  GY 😉 I actually got lucky a while back and recieved a Japanaflo (name cracks me up) instead of a Chinaflo lol. It is such a sweet fan (80mm)...only thing is I use all 120's now. Anyone want to buy my Japanaflo? lol. OP I still haven't located any 120mm garunteed Japanaflo's lol so I'll post back later after searching some more.

If you want Japanese made fans, you can buy Sanyo Denki from http://www.thermalfx.com . They aren't going to be as quiet as Panaflos at full speed, but they will definitely be pushing a lot more air. If you crank them back to an equivalent airflow (beware, some S-Ds have a narrow working voltage range like 10.2-13.8), they will be nearly as, if not lower, noise free. The Sunon maglevs and the CoolerMaster rifled sleeve bearing fans are nice and quiet too.

Thanks, all, for the feedback & info. [Well, I won't thank Stanley for his pointless hostility. ]. And I appreciate the links, JBDan. 😎

Think I'm gonna call SVC tomorrow and see if they can guarantee me, over the phone, that their Panaflos are made in Japan. I need to order some other things from them anyway, so it would be easiest to just get everything from one place (and save a few $$ on shipping). If they won't guarantee me Japanaflos, I'll get 'em from Jab-Tech.

One of these days I'd like to just order a bunch of different fans, like the Sanyo, Globe, etc., and do my own testing. Panaflos are just a known commodity for me and a safe choice for cooling, noise and longevity, and since my friend asked my advice, I feel most comfortable recommending something I've personally used in my own computer. But I'm sure there are a number of other good fans as well.

That's an old article and may or may not have any relevance to the current Panaflo's coming out of China. All of the China Panaflo?s that I?ve used have performed exactly the same as the Japanese counterparts.

Not old to me, but may or may not have any relevance. We don't know. Thought it was interesting though. I only have the Japan models so I cannot speak for China. 😉

As fans go it is pretty much...Papast...Sanyo Denki...Pansonic Panaflo.

Yate Loon and Nexus which rumor control mill has as rebagged Yates are also supposed to be very good fans...I just do not have enough experience with the Yates to give much feedback about them.

Papast are just too darn expensive.

To round out the list of qualilty brands: Delta, NMB, Nidec, Sunon. (And the correct spelling is "Papst"...)

IDK that much about Yate Loon but the Nexus (which are Y-Ls with built in dropping resistors so don't use them on controllers) are nice and quiet. I've also heard that Y-Ls at full cry aren't much if any quieter than any other good similarly speced fan. I had an 80mm Y-L here that came in a Delta budget line PSU but I haven't given it a listen separately yet (when it was in the PSU and throttled down by the internal thermal control, it was very quiet) - I took it out because I wanted to have a fan with a speed sensor in my PSU.

Back on the Panasonic Panaflo's...I have bought in excess of 100 Panaflo's from Directron and every single one of them have been made in Japan.

I am not sure about the fans they aquired from buying out Case Arts which are designated by the CaseEtc on THIS page.

Decent pricing with the only drawback being they do not sell B or BX models that have RPM monitoring.

I have found them cheaper but considering they do allow customer pick-up and are close to my home so I buy from them quite often.

NMB's are also available from Directron cheap, cheap, cheap...Strange tails but super pricing and they have RPM monitoring if you will solder the lead in.

80m/m NMB

92m/m NMB

I have used many of these paticular fans with great results...But in my humble opinion the Panaflo's have better CFM versus DBa in a side by side comparision...Or that has been my experience with the models sold at Directron.

But for the money they are truly a great buy...Build quality is excellent.

Another place for great buy's are from MPJA...They have (I stand corrected) Papst...Sanyo Denki's...Panaflo's...NMB's.

MPJA Online DC fan page.

The 120m/m Sanyo Denki's that echow87 has, just might be what I consider the best 120m/m fan available...If they are the Brushless DC San Ace Model 109R1212H101's then you should check them out.

i got an order of 10 from bgmicro a while back. i just sent an email asking if i could get panaflo fans made in japan, and the woman said she would put a note on my order that i prefer fans made in japan.

surely enough, the order came with 10 japanese panaflo fans. of course YMMV.

Well I don't know of any fans that have a working voltage range in their spec sheet that starts below 7V. Perhaps you can start them up at a higher voltage and then dial them back to 5V and they might work. Just like a car, it takes more power to get up to speed than it takes to remain at speed.

Last Sunday, just to feel productive 😉 I bench tested the fans on hand.

4-Japanaflo 92mm #FBA09A12M, 0.2A
4-Foxcomm 92mm #PV983DEI,0.18A, sleeve bearing.

My hearing is not the best, low volume high pitched sounds can/will make the ears ring.

At full tilt the Foxcomms did not have the edge of ripping air the Japanaflos did but they are rated at 0.20A. Turning down the Sunbeam that they were hooked-up to for what *seemed*
the same air flow, they sound the same. The Foxcomm fan and the internal part of the housing look direct knock-offs of the Panaflow 92. Xoxide.com 4-92 Foxcomm for $7.16.
Two of these are installed where they can easily be changed, as I doubt that they will have a long service life.
This is not ment as FUD but when cutting every corner in production cost, a less desirable
lubricant MAY be used. Plus the bushing/sleeve alignment may not get the proper QC.

The Foxcomms are going in my sister's comp and I WILL know if there is a problem. At that time they will be up-graded.

Not mentioned in this thread is ADDA, they have a green lable line with HYPRO BEARING.
Two years ago I paid too much for them @ mouser.com 80mm #AD0812MX-A70GL.
They are ADDA's responce to Panasonic's HYDRO WAVE(?).

This has been an intresting thread with some good links.

Say, this is OT, but my japanflos can't start reliably at 5V - haven't tried 7V though

I dont think my 120mm China-flo's start at 5v but my 92mm and 80mm ones definately do.

Just adding my 2 pence.
