Where to get HCl solution?

wait, so you're extracting this into HCl to lower the dose? Why not just chop up the pill? I'd be extremely hesitant to acidify a tablet and then try to use the drug, and I'm a chemist.

I'm a chemist too and I agree. And what about the inactive ingredients in the pill: colloidal silicon dioxide, corn starch, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and povidone, will they all dissolve in HCl???

I didn't realize antifungal medications were now code words for making meth.

Seriously though, I wouldn't try this at home. If you have to, using a mortar and pestle to pulverize it, then using a scale to divide (by weight) seems like your best option.

Have you called a pharmacy to find out if smaller tabs are available?

98% would be a gas. 37% is pretty standard, as more than that and it fumes quite a bit at room temp.

You're probably thinking sulphuric, where 98% is a pretty standard strength.

But you're probably right. I don't have much use for either on a daily basis. but I do have HCL, H2SO4, glacial acetic, etc. All reagent grade.

The only one I use regularly is propionic.

What about grinding it up into a fine powder, then blending it with something harmless (corn starch was the first thing that came to mind, since it already might be present), and hope that with enough mixing, it forms a homogenous mixture. Then, dividing it into 10 equal sized doses might be a bit easier.

Sudafed is made of pseudophedrine hcl. You should go to all the pharmacies in the area and buy up all the Sudafed. Then all you have to do is separate the pseudophedrine from the hcl.

I rather doubt Sigma will sell to anyone (anti-terrorist and drug laws), and even if they did I would not recommend using reagent grade acid to make a pharmaceutical preparation (unless you know what you're doing).

I used to use MS grade acids, 99.9999% pure.
