We have them at Kroger around here.

Yeah. Time is worth more than money. Pay the little fee for the coinstar to save you time and it'll give you bills.

it's the principle of the thing. i don't want to be charged money for spending money (well there is tax i guess but that's different). i would rather just wrap them myself while watching a movie on tv (usually only takes 1 or 2 movies for a year's worth of change), and would also rather just grab a roll or two when going to the market or some place and spend slowly then be charged a change tax. but that's just me.

well at least i use credit card for almost everything now. only thing left is for vending machines and other small things to be payable by cell phone like they do in country nokia is based in (finland i believe). cashless society, it has been written so...

The bank I work at counts your coins for free. We have a big machine. I had no idea a $1000.00 in quarters weighed so much.

I have a jar of dimes and pennies. Weird! LOL! I just thought that it wasn't a bad idea to do my personal savings with pennies and dimes. I want to convert it to dollars, but I'm afraid it would be tempting and defeat the purpose. It's crazy counting, though.

I'll use the information in this thread when I'm set to spend. :p

came back from washington mutual recently. i had about $75 in wrapped coins (no pennies). for the first time since i've done this, i was told that after 4 rolls they would charge $0.10 per roll. i thought this was incredible.

anyhow, so some people mention banks that don't charge for taking rolls or even some banks that have machines you can dump unsorted change into. which banks are these?

i also have a water cooler jar almost full of pennies, that i gotta take care of one of these days. would be nice if i could dump it into a machine somewhere without getting charged

I doubt you can walk into any bank and expect them to sort that much change for free. My bank is First National of Omaha, but I've never tried to do that much change there either. Call around and see what you come up with.
Omaha? I live there too. w00t!

i went to the grocery store today. it has "coinstar" (may be 2 words, i dunno). i took in some $36 in change (dimes, nickels, and pennies), was charged like $3 and change for use. i also bought some groceries. so basically, i went in with a bag of change, and walked out with almost $19 in bills and change. the bag was heavy =\ i also have $50 in quarters =P, used to have more, but gave a lot to my sister for laundry.

Yeah some machines will take them and sort them for you, I think they charge like 10% or something though, but the bank as far as I know doesn't have any limits and they shouldn't be charging anyone for something like that. If they have limits then just bring back the max each day or bring some in then a couple hours later bring more in... its up to you though.
