Where to get cheap picture frames?

Leros

Lifer
I bought some prints that are 22"x28" and 24"x36".

I bought some $25 frames from Target, but the plastic cover is just a big glare if I turn a light on. It doesn't look very good.

I went to Hobby Lobby and the prices were pretty high.

Where I can get some cheaper frames that won't have this terrible glare?

Edit:
Somebody suggested I buy cheap frames, then get glare-free glass cut from a frame store. Apparently glass + cheap frame = less than a good frame.

Anyone done this?

A lot of the Crafts stores in my area (Central Florida) are going out of business and most are having huge sales. A few months ago I overheard a group of old ladies in the fabric section of a Wal Mart complaining that these crafts stores all over the country are shutting down due to lack of folks using them.

Some stores to look for that might have decent prices/going out of business sales:

Michaels
JoAnn Fabrics
A.C. Moore

Some other stores that usually have cheap frames:

Big Lots
Ross
Bealls (if you are in Florida)

There are a few other stores in the same niche as Ross (T.J. Maxx and Steinmart are similar I think) would probably have cheap frames as well.

I bought all of my frames at Kohl's and they were dirt cheap. I'm not sure if they will have frames in those sizes, though.

Do you have any poster shops around you? At the local poster / print places downtown, they sell these plastic / plexi frames for $20 or so, and have the sizes you're looking for. The frames are the ones that are just a piece of particle board or cardboard and a sheet of plexi held together by the plastic edging pieces.

I have something similar to that and I'm extremely unsatisfied. The cheap frames I got at target have cheap wood frame and a sheet of plexi. The plexi is very reflective though and has terrible glare. I can't really see the picture unless I stand at the right angle.

Hmm mine aren't that reflective. Maybe you could leave the protective covering on the outside of the sheet to cut down on glare or something. The main problem I've run into with these frames is getting them to fit together all nice and flush. I don't really care for the frames, but they're cheap and look decent.

how much is the glass with the antiglare coating?
I saw it at michaels custom frame section, but it looked expensive.

I don't know yet. My friend said it wasn't too expensive, but I haven't checked myself.

Well you said it'd end up costing less than a good frame, but I imagined that a anti glare coated 24x36 would cost at least 3 figures, so I'm just wondering how you came to that conclusion.

There is a reseller on amazon called something w/ frames in their name. Very cheap and decent quality.

Its what my friend said she does. She said she gets a cheap frame, throws out the crappy plastic cover it comes with and gets a piece of anti-glare glass cut for cheap. I don't know anything beyond what she said.

I haven't, but even the cheap-to-moderately priced framing services at a place like Jo-Ann's will leave you with the glare glass.

Why not ask them if they'll cut you a sheet of the the anti-glare stuff? They probably won't, seeing as how they're corporate style, but YMMV.

That. or look up a glass dealer in your area.

what i did is buy budget art, with decent frames. they may not be the right size, but they're generally a standard size and you can get them to fit. then take the crappy art out, put whatever you want in. comes with glass and matting pre-done.

Michaels is good. Only if you use their coupons they occasionally give out in the Sunday paper. I think it was either 40 or 60% off.

That or dollar stores. Get a painting and remove the ugly ass picture and reuse the frame 😀

Goodwill store has some dirt cheap prices on paintings w/frame
One I saw there for $5-10 easily rivaled the expensive ornate wood custom frame from michaels.
